A very good friend and I were discussing today's politics. The point came up about so many of today's young people seem to hate the United States.

He said blame today's teachers and College professors. I couldnt argue against that. Today's young have been simply brain washed against the US by radical left teachers and professors.

Given education is about providing critical appraisal skills, do you think your good friend could go on some evening classes to appreciate the point?

I wouldn't want to live in your town if many of the young people hate America. It must be a pretty bad place, Why does your local school board hire teachers like that. It would seem to me that folks like you could make some changes by becoming involved in your local schools and by electing better people to run your community.

Didn't you post a little while back that you were proud that someone in your family that was dear to you was becoming a teacher? Perhaps you and your friend should grab her and straighten her out.

Critical appraisal skills.... Too bad it wasn't about providing critical thinking skills. Or how to question things. Schools today are rubber stamp. A=Z and nothing in between.

What do you base that on? The uneducated are unfortunately easier to manipulate. The educated are less so. This of course is the most important reason why equality of opportunity in education is key.

Is that because conservatives were concerned about schools and asked for state tests that are required to evaluate students: tests that are often used to publicly grade schools and determine finances, tests that have to be taught to so the school can get money and prestige, tests that require practice that takes learning days out of the school year, tests that are fact/memory based rather because the answer has to be either wrong or right tests that largely ignore creativity and critical thinking because those are skills can not be graded objectively?

Stop with this whole nonsense about blaming teachers and professors. In order to be influenced by someone you have to like and respect that person. Most kids don’t like their teachers. Kids are more influenced by their parents. You want to blame someone...blame the parents of these kids who supposedly “hate America”.
What is your specific evidence today’s young people “hate America”?

In 4 years of my undergrad i think i only had 1 conservative professor in the liberal arts area... Most of the conservatives were in the business school. Now I will say that most of my MBA professors were conservative.

When I was a nipper I was taught by free marketeers, Keynesians and Marxists. None of them dictated who I became. All of them unleashed potential.

The right wing will always be against the educators. They question their core belief. They make right wingers think. Thinking right wingers aren't dandy for them. They often wake up.

Historically, people have always blamed high level education as "brainwashing". The kids go away and hear new ideas, experience new things, learn to examine themselves and the world around them and some people just don't like it. The reality is the world is a big place and it's myopic to think one's own experiences are *all there is* in the world. We've made some strides but there are still quite a few people that are content with the status quo even if it means they never venture outside their own backyard.

Evidence is all around. College kids wanting to segregate into "safe spaces", wanting to make "hate speech" against the law claiming that it is physical violence, and many many other things. Yelling at teachers claiming that college isn't about intellectual space but about "creating a home". Claiming things like milk, time, chess etc etc as white racism. All you have to do is look.

Mind you this isn't seen in the STEM fields. Only in the soft "sciences". Hell, there's a course in Florida Gulf Coast University that is all about white racism. It's literally titled "White Racism". Bet you won't ever see a "Black Racism" course taught anywhere in a college.

Super. Present one empirical study ;)

Those educated fellows all know about how to use empirical studies to critique, don't they?

No real surprise here and this study is three years old.

"Public School Teachers Lead Antifa Group
Public school teachers are behind a leading far-left militant group that is part of the Antifa network that federal officials say is committing “domestic terrorist violence.”

By Any Means Necessary, which has played a key role in riots in Berkeley, Sacramento and elsewhere, has dozens of public school teachers among its members, including among its most prominent leaders."

Any young person today with a brain and the desire to achieve their full potential, understanding the benefits of education, and wondering/questioning what the hell is going on in our government today, will have a high propensity to dislike the USA. IMO this is a big...duh!

Historians will surely grade these times as some of the worst times in US history. Our president and Congress are a failure on everything! It's little surprise that kids today dislike the path we're on...

Funny how you make this about conservatives. You do know that Common Core was started under Obama in 2010 right? That it was started because colleges and companies were demanding more than what high school diploma's were worth? But hey...its a "conservative" thing right?

Its certainly the case that education increases the risk of anti-fascism! ;)

I'm not sure whats happening in education these days but i can definitely say kids have much less common sense and are far less competent than in the 90s

Do you hate your children when you tell them they can do better?
Telling a country that it can do better isn't hating your country.
Guess you weren't interested in telling your "friend" any coherent thought and just went for mouthing conservative platitudes instead. Congratulation.

~ Learn a trade. Kids should concentrate on math, English and science. Stay away from humanities and "social" studies/liberal arts.
They can do this during high school. Learn construction ; carpentry ; electronics ; plumbing ; automotive repair ; cooking ; etc.
:happycry:´ There is hope for the future ...:blowkiss:

    Haha.
I volunteered for Big Brother about 10 years ago and my “younger brother” got his political leanings from his parents. I’ve been coaching for 18 years at high school level and four of those years also at middle school level. With VERY few exceptions every kid couldn’t stand their teachers. Just as I didn’t like any of my teachers. Who likes the people who give you homework and tests? My political leaning were shaped by my parents. Just as most peoples’ political leanings are shaped by their parents. Peoples’ morals and ethics are shaped by their parents. To blame teachers for how young kids are today is just asinine.

Nostalgia, even when its mainly based on grunt, is a key component of conservatism. It used to be just "our music was better; yours is the work of Satan". Now its a call for fascism and a genuine hatred of education.
