You are trying to blame Southern racism, Jim Crow, slavery, separate but not equal on a political party. Those evils were perpetrated in the South by Southerners.

You notice that I said "in the South" .
Have you ever noticed that Democrats from the North were the ones who pushed for Civil Rights? But not the Democrats from the South?
Why ? It splits on being Southern or Norther and not being Democratic Party members.

The claim is there was this massive shift of the segregationist Dems to the Republican party after the CRA and VRA. Stop dodging. What I have noticed is those of your view try to pretend there was the Democrat party and then there was a third party, the Southern Democrat party which is utter nonsense. They were just as much Democrats as the Northern Democrats and with the rare exception of Thurmond remained Democrats until their dying days. And stopping kidding yourself there was no discrimination and segregation in the North.

    Try again.

Of the 21 Southern Democrat Senators who voted against be CRA and VRA how many were in this rush to switch to Republicans? How many switched parties? How many stayed retaining their leadership positions and were re-elected as Democrats?

You do know why he opposed THAT civil rights bill? Sorry you were unaware of Goldwater's history of desegregation and support for equal rights when it came to THE GOVERNMENT. He was also a constitutionalist and why he opposed the coercive measures against PRIVATE business while at the same time had supported the VOLUNTARY measures he helped bring about in Phoenix. So the Southern segregationist did not find hope there and remained Democrats until they all finally died out.

    Bait and switch...

Republicans got the Southern vote in 68.

You can whine, wheedle, bluster and BS, that fact is going nowhere. Southern racists are still in the Republican party. Which you know.

Talking about politicians won't help you. Some reformed, some left, and some just rode it out.

"Some southern Democrats became Republicans at the national level, while remaining with their old party in state and local politics throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Several prominent conservative Democrats switched parties to become Republicans, including Strom Thurmond, John Connally and Mills E. Godwin Jr.

The South became fertile ground for the Republican Party, which was becoming more conservative as it shed its liberal "Rockefeller Republican" faction. The large black vote in the South dramatically shifted towards the Democratic Party. Well-established Democratic incumbents, however, still held sway over voters in many states, especially in Deep South. Although Republicans won most presidential elections in Southern states starting in 1964, Democrats controlled nearly every Southern state legislature until the mid-1990s.."

    But they're gone now.

    Wear it with pride!

Why does that have to be racist? Can't they just disagree with his policies and protest? What makes you think race had anything to do with those events?

Why is racism such a big whooping deal? It seems that racism is either an excuse to hate white people, or it's a hole card to be played when a minority needs it.

There was a shift to the Republicans by the Southern population in voting. Yes it started in 1964 until today when you have one Democratic Senator ( at least until this Nov) . Jesse Helms went Republican by 1970. Trent Lott was a Democrat when young as was Richard Shelby. John Connolly, Millis Goodwin followed Thurman to become Republican. Of course your Segregationists such as Eastland, Stennis , and Russel did not want to lose their seniority so they stayed as "Democratic Senators" but voted otherwise.

How do you explain that there is only one Democratic Senator from the hard South today and he got in because Republicans ran a pedophile?

Did I ever deny that there was discrimination in North?

Why were and are Northern Democrats pro Civil right? Is it because they are Northerners or because they are Democrats?
If we used your logic why were Northern Democrats should be as anti civil rights as were Southern Democrats! You say or imply or claim or insinuate that Democrats are racist and anti civil rights. How do you explain Northern Democrats?

If racism is a Democratic disease

why did Northern Democrats support civil rights?

Ahh no Nixon did not get the Southern vote Wallace got it, the Democrat who ran as a independent and then returned to the Democrat party. And no significant gains in Congress of local elections occurred until the mid 1990's. And again how many of the 21 Southern Democrat Senators became Republicans? The black vote in the South as far back as FDR voted overwhelmingly Democrat. Connally was not a segregationist and Mills was endorsed by the NAACP in 1965.

You should read Kevin Phillips book, he was the architect of the Southern Strategy. He knew it would take time.

Sure Wallace sucked votes away from Humphrey. So what? Your hypothetical is that Humphrey would have won without Wallace. But Nixon won with a lead twice what Wallace got. (110 - 46 is still a win)

"Analysts have argued the election of 1968 was a major realigning election as it permanently disrupted the New Deal coalition that had dominated presidential politics since 1932."
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1968_United_States_presidential_election

What is happening here is you are playing out a losing hand. You know you've lost, you just don't want to admit it.

My conclusion is Trump fans or a significant portion of them do not like it when Joe tells the truth about Trump. Joe is irate but truthfull. He is Wounded that Trump has taken Joe's Party and has turned it into an Anti- American party. Many of us agree with Joe. Joe rails against Graham who was once John MCCain's friend but now fails to defend his former friend even when POTUS D craps schiest on MCCain even when John can no longer defend himself being in the grave. Joe speaks up when
POTUS D craps schiest on our military and those any of us good American and veterans who have any testicular fortitude stand up for our military brotherhood.

Waaay back in the 80s, when the crazy got going, political scientists, reporters and others would regularly debunk what Rush said. This happened dozens of times.

Then somebody noticed that if a person wanted truth, they didn't listen to Rush. And if they listened to Rush, the last thing they wanted was the truth.

They live in a fantasy world.

Would the alternative have been better? Preferable even, if Andrew Jackson and his army had been defeated and the city of New Orleans fell?

This is pure trivia, but the soldiers had a bad day in the big battle. Things went wrong.

What won the day were the American made cannon. We had a lot more of them, and they gave the Brits a very bad day.

    But we needed heroes, so...

Btw, one of Jackson's cronies made off with a million bucks. That was a lot of money back then. Does give his presidency a Trumpian flavor, does it not?

They were using him for ratings and he was using them to expose himself to the voters so to speak.

Trump claims that Mika was bleeding from a facelift the day her and Joe vistited MarvLago. Come on now how fornicatingly stupid is that to make up. Talk about fake talk about a hoax. Trump claimed a Fox on air personality bled from her "whatever". Trump has no credibility after he was caught at least those two times making up schiest involving woman and bleeding. He must have some fascination twith talking about woman and blood. How sick is that!

No he wasn't Pat Buchanan had more to do with along with other political advisers, Phillips wrote about it and popularized the notion but

The myth of Nixon’s ‘Southern Strategy’

"Nixon barely campaigned in the Deep South. His strategy, as outlined by Kevin Phillips in his classic work, “The Emerging Republican Majority,” was to target the Sunbelt, the vast swath of territory stretching from Florida to Nixon’s native California. This included what Phillips terms the Outer or Peripheral South.

Nixon recognized the South was changing. It was becoming more industrialized, with many northerners moving to the Sunbelt. Nixon’s focus, Phillips writes, was on the non-racist, upwardly-mobile, largely urban voters of the Outer or Peripheral South. Nixon won these voters, and he lost the Deep South, which went to Democratic segregationist George Wallace.

And how many racist Dixiecrats did Nixon win for the GOP? Turns out, virtually none. Among the racist Dixiecrats, Strom Thurmond of South Carolina was the sole senator to defect to the Republicans — and he did this long before Nixon’s time. Only one Dixiecrat congressman, Albert Watson of South Carolina, switched to the GOP. The rest, more than 200 Dixiecrat senators, congressmen, governors and high elected officials, all stayed in the Democratic Party.

The progressive notion of a Dixiecrat switch is a myth. Yet it is myth that continues to be promoted, using dubious case examples. Though the late Sens. Jesse Helms of North Carolina and John Tower of Texas and former Mississippi Sen. Trent Lott all switched from the Democratic Party to the GOP, none of these men was a Dixiecrat. "
    https://thehill.com/opinion/campaign/402754-the-myth-of-nixons-southern-strategy

and no the Republicans did not win the South in 1968. And of course all but one state voted for Nixon in 1972 and the South went Democrat for Carter. But yes it was a long term transformation as I have noted with the Republicans winning the Civil Rights and Voting Rights battles it was a long term strategy for those segregationist Democrats to finally die off and bring the younger generation Southerns and the northern Republicans moving to the South to vote Republican. It was NOT a sudden massive shift of Democrats to Republican and it took another 30 years for that to happen.

You keep cherry picking these rare exceptions and Helms and Lott were NOT Dixiecrats And Richard Shelby never was nor a segregationist. You keep dodging the question I asked and it will go no further until you respond to what I ask.

Of the 21 Southern Democrat Senators who voted against be CRA and VRA how many were in this rush to switch to Republicans? How many switched parties? How many stayed retaining their leadership positions and were re-elected as Democrats?

You cannot just count the Senators. The Dixiecrats were the tip of the iceberg. The move away from the Democrats turned into a tide just as LBJ said. LBJ was only wrong about the time period. He said that by his signing the Civil Rights act the Democrats would lose the South for a generation. He was wrong it will be for many generations or for ever.

What do you think caused the Democrats to lose the South. A miracle?
What do you think caused the Southern Whites to become Republicans? A miracle? What did you think caused the Blacks to become Democrats? A miricle?
