I honestly think the no-maskers are upset because they feel it takes away their civil rights. The next logical question would be "what else are they going to take away?" It's a fine line.

By the way, I did an experiment recently. I counted how many times I touched my face in a day and was shocked at the high number. I think the masks are there to give us pause before touching our face and has less to do with other people. Whatever the reason, it's the new "normal". I, personally, will never touch another doorknob. LOL

The problem for me is the employer enforced mask, especially for high intensity high sweat jobs. I would like to see more science that says masks in this environment are safer, because my instincts say that when this supervisor forces me to wear this soaking wet Petri dish around my face all night, he is endangering my health. People who have never had to sweat for a living my not understand, but one must wipe the sweat from one's brow. One can use one's arm to do this to avoid using hands on the face. But how in the hell am I supposed to keep my hands off my face AND keep the sweat from burning my eyes out AND wear this mask??

It doesn't work for manual laborers and I suspect our leaders know this and are willing to put these workers at risk.

    Ohhh poor you.

I've worked jobs that require goggles, hardhat, long sleeves and gloves...no matter that it's 95 deg and 90% humidity

And you're whining about a paper mask in the middle of a pandemic?

    Please tell me you're kidding

And I've crawled through half mile 3 foot high trenches in 10 inches of oil to clear sides of conveyors in a steel mill in full suit.

The point is the mandate endangers me. My contact risk has skyrocketed for negligible gain in aerosol prevention. You can literally watch the people in the plant touching their faces repeatedly while trying to mess with their masks .It's not safer; it's dumber.

That works if you live in an area where it's OPTIONAL. Our governor (IL) has issued a state-wide mandate for masks in ALL retail businesses and they ALL have signs up stating the requirement under Governor's orders.

That's the point . I don't have to touch my face when I'm not wearing a mask because I can use the inside of my arm to wipe sweat (trust me I'm probably burning thousands of calories per night to the point that I have to change shirts at lunch because it's soaking wet). Cannot do this effectively with the mask. My point is very evident in person as I've seen the light bulb go off in several people as I tell them to just look around the plant and watch peoples hands and tell me this is safer.

    Pure nonsense.
If you're that weird, step away from people, lift your damn mask and stick your nose in your armpit if you have to

Not weird. I think and I care. I don't believe in absolutes. My instinct tells me this mask is not ALWAYS safer in every situation. My observations of my coworkers confirm my instincts. Their contact risk from hand to mouth is greatly increased while sweating profusely with a mask.

agree, masks in areas with lots of close contact, probably wise, but no one will wear them everywhere

no way I would wear one at a beach as an example or anywhere outdoors with little human contact

Lately my new hobby is observing those poor people working with masks on, mostly servers in dining facilities. I feel sorry for them. Clearly the masks are uncomforable.

I saw a lot more people wearing masks at a grocery store and Walmart yesterday, one black woman wasn't wearing a mask and considering... Oh, Walmart shelves of hand sanitizer in the 34 FL OZ size are empty. The wind was so strong going West toward the mainland I was going 40 full throttle and 60 coming back easy on my Grom, odds are a person at the beach was perfectly safe.
