Oregon Politician Said He Received Racist Letter. He Wrote It Himself, Police Say An Oregon politician admitted that he wrote himself a racist letter after claiming he received it from an anonymous person, according to Hermiston Police. Jonathan Lopez, who was a Umatilla County commissioner candidate, claimed on social media that he received a letter in his mailbox. The letter was filled “with derogatory and racist terms,” KEPR-TV News previously reported. A criminal investigation for second-degree intimidation was launched and closed after police deemed the incident to be fake, Chief Jason Edmiston said according to KEPR-TV News. Nah....he got his tail spanked in the election by finishing 4th. He did not have much of a chance anyway as Umatilla County is fairly "red". His initial claim was that he found the letter in his mailbox. He made a big deal about it on Facebook and contacted the local paper to make a big deal about how racist the letter was and how much of a victim he is. Once he was found out, he admitted to writing the letter and claimed it was just an example of how racist people "can be". The shame of it is that there will be some asshat that thinks they can do this same kind of thing and get away with it that will come alone and do the same thing with the same results and it will probably be a minority Democrat.
It's a shame because it drives home a narrative that people want to believe, a narrative that disrupts our American homeland and our fellow neighbors, they are our sisters and brothers and wives and husbands. They should believe in the fact that we're treated equally under the law, and that we can coexist together. But as this perfect example illustrates, for the purpose of cynical politics there are those(not naming names, but these politicians know who they are) who would destroy the union and its strength just to achieve their political careers or agenda's.
What a moron. I guess it's a good thing we support punishing people for THEIR crimes. And no, there is no shortage of racism. This example of one person's stupidity has no bearing on racism as a whole.
The system worked just fine. Someone lied at the level that it was a crime, the police investigated and uncovered said lie and exposed it. If he broke the law, and the case has a high likelihood of succeeding, he should/will be prosecuted. But he doesn't have to be to pay a price. This will likely end his political career or greatly hamstring it.
There is a huge over reaction to assigning racism as a cause to situations that have nothing to do with racism. COVID is racist. Weather is racist. Somebody seems to claim at some point that any random thing is racist. It creates an attitude that most claims of racism aren't actually valid claims of racism. I take racism claims much less seriously now than I did five years ago and for good reason.
These acts are a slander on our entire society. These folks want to portray us as a deeply racist nation, yet actual acts of racism they can point to in order support their false claim are in such short supply that they have to fake them! This is probably the most accidentally sincere compliment they could pay us in recognition of the tremendous job we have done since the Republicans first defeated the Democrats in the Civil War and then passed the Civil Rights amendment nearly 60 years ago. This is all aimed at the Nov election, and don't kid yourselves, these fanatics are dangerous. They will attack you, assault you, hit you over the head with a bike lock, break your eye socket with a hammer, burn your business down, flatten your tires, fire bomb your car with you in it, fire guns into your car murdering your innocent 8 year old daughter and mob your house for disagreeing with them, or with "silence is violence" for not joining them quickly, obediently and enthusiastically enough. These are very deranged, irrational, violent and dangerous people. Do not confront them, avoid all contact with them, fake agreement if you must, but come Nov, caste your secret ballot for Trump. He alone is willing to confront them nationally, and through it's only one man vs thousands, he is so formidable, that they are still out numbered. We are beyond good fortune to have such a person as this in the presidency during this turbulent period.
COVID can't be racist, it's caused by a virus. Only people can be racist. The same is true about the weather. I often find that people tend to dismiss explanations they don't want to hear. No one wants to hear that their country has an issue with race. But how can we possibly think that we have resolved all concerns about race in the short time since we have ended slavery? And note that ending slavery didn't mean we also, at least from a legislative stand point, pushed towards equality. Much of that came MUCH later in this country. Obviously we are working towards improvement, despite the efforts of some, and things are better, but they aren't at the ideal state of equality that this nation was founded on. So you can't just rest on your laurels and call it all good. Unless you want to say you are OK forming just a 'meh' Union instead of a more perfect one.
Our country has a race issue alright. People use racism to blame just about anything. It's about being a victim. You might think that a virus can't be racist or the weather can't be racist but you are only one person and your opinion doesn't count much in the world where people claim virtually everything is racist.
