President Trump said he would have no problems releasing his taxes to the American People. What happened to change that?

    MAY 20, 2014:

"If I decide to run for office, I'll produce my tax returns, absolutely," he said. "And I would love to do that."

    FEBRUARY 25, 2015:

Trump told radio host Hugh Hewitt that he would "certainly show tax returns if it was necessary."

    JANUARY 24, 2016:

Trump told NBC's Chuck Todd that he had "very big returns."Asked if he would release them publicly, Trump said, "we're working on that now."

    FEBRUARY 11, 2016:

Trump appeared again on Hewitt's radio program and said of his returns, "we'll get them out at some point, probably."

    MAY 11, 2016:

Trump tells the Associated Press that his taxes are under "routine audit" and he will release them when the audit is done."I would release my tax returns when audit is complete, not after election!" he tweeted about the interview.

    SEPTEMBER 27, 2016:

Trump says during the first presidential debate that his taxes will be released once an audit is finished.

"I don't mind releasing. I'm under a routine audit, and it will be released. As soon as the audit's finished, it will be released," he said.

    JANUARY 22, 2017:

White House senior adviser Kellyanne Conway said on ABC's "This Week" that "the White House response is that he's not going to release his tax returns."

She added: "We litigated this all through the election. People didn't care."

He didn’t change his mind. He never intended to release them in the first place.

As a voter I’m more concerned about Democrat mayors unleashing looting onto us, than about Trump’s tax returns.

I think opponents of Trump are hoping his tax returns will show type type of sinister connection to Russia or other shady transactions or income source. I doubt there will be any evidence of that in them. I think the only reason Trump does not want to show his tax returns is his ego. He has always inflated his net worth claiming to be worth 10 billion or more. Probably in reality it is much lower than that. I have seen estimates of around 2 billion that seem plausible. I have also heard accusations of 100s of million with no reason evidence at all. Trump has always been about branding and marketing himself. If he has been misrepresenting his net worth I think it is to protect the image that he has created.

Not exactly, here's a good refresher of why seeing his tax returns is important: https://www.washingtonpost.com/outl...b812da-5171-11e9-88a1-ed346f0ec94f_story.html

In New York if he is “Individual One” they’re looking to find out if he filed taxes the same way they booked the “expense”. Also, whether he was inflating and deflating valuations between the banks and the State and Fed (IRS). They have evidence for it, but need the returns to confirm it. Essentially, fraud in both cases NYC and House.

Running for President was the dumbest thing Trump could have done. It’s the one place where you’re fraud is not going to fly under the radar. Yeah. He’s a fraud and will be charged with fraud in 2021 by NYC.

All of those quotes were just him stonewalling. I agree with the posters that say he never intended to release them.

More than likely, the tax returns will show how many Democrats were extoritong money from Trump back when he was Democrat in NYNY and trying to get building permits for his hotels and other projects

Let's face facts, Trump haters are power hungry liars who will do anything to get power. They want anything they can distort and lie about to achieve their power play.

Extorting is such a triggering word 'requesting campaign donations' would be so much better.

Why? Because he finally came to the realization that giving his opposition such a juicy tool to use to attack him would be painful. Pretty obvious, I would think.

From the Wa Po article mentioned earlier......."As Oleg Kalugin, a former head of counterintelligence for the KGB, told me in an interview for my book “House of Trump, House of Putin: The Untold Story of Donald Trump and the Russian Mafia,” the Mafia amounts to “one of the branches of the Russian government today.” Where Americans cracked down on the Italian American Mafia, Putin dealt with the Russian mob very differently. He co-opted it. He made it an integral part of his Mafia state. Russian gangsters became, in effect, Putin’s enforcers. They had long and deep relationships. According to a tape recording made by former Russian agent Alexander Litvinenko a year before he was fatally poisoned in London, Putin had close ties to Semion Mogilevich, a top mobster, that dated to the early 1990s.

That criminals with ties to Russia bought Trump condos, partnered with Trump and were based at Trump Tower — his home, his place of work, the crown jewel of his empire — should be deeply concerning."

I think he's been secretive about his taxes is a combination of who he is financially involved with AND tax fraud schemes.

The President had no intention of releasing them. His specious arguments for not doing so have been exposed.

More than likely his tax returns will show that his net worth, much of it in real estate, tanked during the great recession. It will likely show that his losses in net worth far exceeded his income from operations, leaving him with little if any tax liability for a period of time.

If I were Trump, I would have called a real estate appraiser the minute Big Bird decided to deface the location of Trump Tower so Trump can once again take advantage of depreciation. Up against the most dishonest excuses for human beings that comprise the Democrat Party of former slave owners, Hangmen, Segregationists, and White Supremacists, he shouldn't expose anything that can be distorted.

Me, before I accuse someone of a crime, I like to see due process played out. Until that happens, it's just a temper tantrum played out by children who didn't get their way in 2016, despite their unmatched hubris.

In fairness, Trump did state over and over and over he would release them. So it seems he's also throwing a temper tantrum going back on what he said he'd do.
That being said, I think this whole tax return thing is beyond silly and such a waste of time and energy. There are bigger things going on in the world than to be fixated on tax returns.

Agreed. Unfortunately, however, Trump has not allowed 'due process' to play out. He has refused. So you can call it a temper tantrum if you wish, but we are simply holding Trump to his campaign promises - one of the easier ones, at that.

So you think he was trying to hide something that would damage his chances to win the election?

When he agreed to released his tax forms Trump thought the news media would be fair. Later on he found out that the news media are the exact opposite, they are biased against him,and will use any opportunity to attack him, no matter how small, and no matter if they have to grossly exaggerate or even out right lie.

Releasing his taxes would only invite the media to misconstrue, lie, and distort what was in them, to attack Trump as a tax cheat, yadda, yadda. I remember how the media spent months mischaracterizing what was in Romney's tax returns.

. . . Trump has claimed that Article II gives him the power to do whatever he wants as president, he's circumvented Congress's Constitutional powers, and his legal argument before the SC was an insane assertion of "absolute immunity" that even his own appointees didn't buy. What was that about power?

Obama's IRS audited Trump in 2016. You think they were under orders to not investigate Trump properly? The Obama admin was going after Trump and his campaign, why in the hell would they back off and not be thorough with his tax audit?

Due process is playing out. The Democrat House was told that witch hunting isn't oversight. 4 years of attempts to infiltrate and frame the Trump campaign fell flat. Impeachment based on lies fell flat. We'll see if Cyrus Vance will continue to pursue Trump's tax returns knowing the election will be in the rear view mirror by the time he sees them. Wile E Coyote is still at it.
