Judging from March, the ideological left wing of the Democratic Party in Texas should be inconsolable.

After months of high hopes, the faction ran into a centrist buzz saw in the March 3 primary. Joe Biden practically locked up the Democratic presidential nomination, and progressive candidates experienced electoral drubbings.

Among the fallen: presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, congressional candidate Jessica Cisneros, U.S. Senate hopeful Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez, and Audia Jones, a candidate for Harris County District attorney endorsed by Sanders.

But rather than licking their political wounds, leading progressive candidates still in the fight say they’re invigorated — and eager to use the coronavirus pandemic, fights over voting by mail and calls for police reform to score some late victories in the July runoffs.

There is a fundamental problem that is taking hold in the democrat party.

The far left seems to be steering the party, yet far left candidates aren't doing well outside of deep blue districts.

And the same far left seems to be demanding ideological purity that is turning off centrists and moderates.

What you are seeing is the energy and momentum that gave you punishing losses in 2016.

Its looking more and more that way.

Its like socialism, racial tension, and poverty are not winning issues.

I think few dems will admit it now, but after election day I hope some will come clean about their reservations.

I was talking about my reservations during the primaries. But they're not your reservations.

It's exactly like social programs, racial tensions and the coming tidal wave of poverty are going to be winning issues...

Since Trump had the nomination wrapped up, I voted Sanders in the Texas primary, hoping Trump would at least have a competitor who is cognitively present, and we could have a real debate on Nationalism vs Socialism. I also voted for the craziest far-left whackadoodles down ballot. Some of them made the runoffs, but were 2nd placers.

I voted early this week in the runoffs, but switched to the most moderate Dem candidates just in case Biden were to win Texas.

My gut feeling is that the progressives won't be motivated to turn out for moderate candidates in November, so Texas should remain safely red.

I am sad to see you have your hopes up for those issues, because they are ominous signs.

LSG, you are in a unique position-you can analyze and speak well, and I presume you are in Texas.

I will make a note to ask you over the coming months what your eyes on the ground interpretation is.

Yeah, how horrible it will be to make the country better.

Texas is expected to be majority Hispanic with the 2020 Census. They seem to be being left out of the 2020 election conversation, until Trump's meeting with Obrador this week and his signing a Latino initiative yesterday. Biden is ignoring them so far, except with generic "open borders" propaganda.

My sense is that Hispanics who have been here multiple generations are fairly conservative, but probably 50/50 Democrat v Republican. The waves of non-English speaking newer Mexicans (and, lately, Central American) migrants are more radical/progressive, or at least strongly Democrat. Anyway, most of the Hispanics who have built family businesses here don't want open borders threatening their "turf", even if they end up voting Democrat.

I keep wondering if all the focus on BLM this year is alienating Hispanics. BLM supports black Hispanics, but not white Hispanics.

The problem with elected dems is they think they are helping.

The problem with elected Republicans is that they've forgotten how to govern. The few that use to know, anyway.
