I'm an American who thinks he lives lives in the best country on the planet and consider myself a nationalist. I think we may be arguing semantics.

Somewhere between 20 and 30. I'm too lazy to count them up. I have lived in three other countries. How about you? Which countries do you like better than the U.S.?

 

I have worked and lived in other nations as well - and Traveled all over the globe.

Different countries are good for different things. I don't think there is a "Best country" in the world for everything and it depends on the person. Had a cousin who was a Surfer Dude - who chose to live in El Salvador (during the nastiness) cause they have some of the best waves.

From an overall perspective I think we used to be the best but this is no longer the case. Economic Opportunity is not what it used to be in the US - Jim Rogers some 10 years ago claimed that China had a more free and fair economy.

The US does not have the lowest crime rate among industrialize nations "by far" - although some parts of Europe seem to be catching up of late.

We used to be better with respect to civil liberties - That is no longer the case.

I just don't feel like waving the flag running around claiming "we are the best" cut's it these days.

Tell that to the Trumpers. They're not quite as bad as the Chinese but I get a lot of the "cultural unity" arguments from them which sound VERY similar

 

Xianjing was conquer during mongol empire, part of it was conquered during ming dynasty, follow by Qin dynasty, then it was on its own in late qin dynasty and during china civil war, later Mao got it back to PRC, so i wont call it modern time. Xianjian situation has nothing to do with ethnic cleansing, if it does Mao would done it after the 50s. Consider china has about 80 millions muslim, 56 ethnic group, 40,000 mosque, these number are much higher compare to US. Also alot muslim doesn't belong to uighur muslims, china didn't seem to bother them. China start crushing down on Xinjian after 2009 riot, to crush east turkestan movement in that region, and the domestic terrorism associate with uighur, its political not culture. CCP will crush any group whether is han ethnic group(tiananmen square 1989) or muslim if they see them as direct challenge to the party authority, these including separatism, democratic movement, political free speech, and other things that can change the political structure of the status quo .

 

Nationalism isn't an ideology that is similar everywhere. Han Chinese nationalism isn't simply "Chinese nationalism" as in the country. Han Chinese nationalism would compare best to American "White Nationalism". Nationalism in most of the world outside the US isn't about loving one's country, although that is part of it too, it's about loving (excessively and irrationally, imo) one's nation. My country, for example is Denmark. My ethnicity is also Danish. Danish nationalism, however, isn't when anyone simply "loves Denmark and considers it the best country on Earth". It's ethnic nationalism. You may have a Danish passport, but you are not neccesarily of the Danish nation, meaning people/tribe. Chinese nationalism is similarly ethnic, not simply relating to the country of China. If their nationalism was about the country as a whole, it would embrace Tibetan, Uighur, Mongol and the many other national minorities that are a native part of the country of China.

 

Sorry to hear you feel that way. We have a truly great country but with an incompetent and corrupt government. I have lived in countries that were not as great but also had incompetent and corrupt governments. If we could clean up government and politics we would be better. But even with our warts, I consider us the best. Not many people are flocking to El Salvador to immigrate there despite the surfing. They coming here by the millions.

You seem to think China is superior to the U.S. for some reason. I've never been there but I have been in other authoritarian countries and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. I have lived in a country ruled by a dictator. It had its charms as well but I wouldn't rank it anywhere near the U.S.

It is sad to run into so many Americans that don't appreciate their country. They want to tear it down rather than make it better. Very sad.
