While simultaneously being quite an accurate assessment of the situation.

Sorry but I Googled and couldn't find anything about Cruz supporting a wall or getting our troops out of the middle east before Trump's campaign.

Okay, so for the hardliners, how many Americans dying in a post-modern civil war is considered acceptable collateral damage, for either the hard left or the hard right to "win" and take one-party totalitarian control of the country?

Other than moderate compromise between parties, what other option is there?

It doesn't take a majority of people to think that a civil war will break out for a civil war to literally break out.

34% of American voters think a Civil War will break out in the next 5 years:

    40% of Republicans
    28% of Democrats
    38% of Independents

    https://americanmilitarynews.com/20...s-think-a-civil-war-is-likely-within-5-years/

So.....do you want to compromise, find some common ground, and unite as Americans before massive bloodshed? Or do we just wait for one side to completely crush the other half of Americans and keep that 50% of American survivors oppressed for the next 100 years?

Do you have a third alternative solution to the increasing division, between compromise and war?

I know! He, and other candidates, were blacked out by media. I was a Cruz supporter in the Texas primary season. His campaign would post the date and location of a campaign speech. None of them were aired nationally on any major network. You would have had to do a deep search on YouTube to find one local news station airing Cruz's campaign speech, if you were lucky. Texas journals covered "a little" more of Cruz's campaign than other states, since he is from here.

Unless you followed Cruz and searched, you have no idea what his specific platform was.

Anyway, a lot of Texans didn't like Trump in 2016, mainly because of what he did to Cruz. Trump will probably beat Biden this year, but Texas is now considered a purple state instead of hard red.

    @LoneStarGal

    It is about finding
    "Common Ground"
Such as too many deployments without a
    proper "Declaration of War".

I did not see any sabotaging of Trump. Trump was stymied because he built his administration the way he lives his live. Transactional. He cashed in the chips he got for the two SC picks for Republican support but that is not support built of shared philosophy but on transactions.
So if you buy people with chips instead of philosophical capital you need to continue to pay. It is akin to paying a prostitute if you do not have a girlfriend. Too many Republicans are the opposite of the good classical ones like Kasich so they are being bought by Trump in transactional arrangement like prostitutes.

Can you rephrase the second part, please?

Sorry, I get the common ground words, but I don't understand what you mean, "Such as too many deployments without proper "Declaration of War".

Cruz showed that he is a Eunach when he went to the Trump throne room and prostrated himself before Trump and dragged his wife along even though Trump insulted his wife his father and him.

I've been wanting and voting 3rd party most of 30 yrs.

Perot had the best chance. He was the best candidate. He got what 20% of the vote.
And almost every person I've talked to back in 1992 and even today, say they voted for Perot. I know, limited anecdotal evidence. But in my little world, he should've had 80% of the vote.

I think for a 3rd party to gain hold, it has to start at the local level. And build it from the ground up.
Doing at the highest level, the prez election hasn't worked yet.

But as I said, every year the Independents get a % or more. Maybe in 4 yrs it can get to 35%.
tRUMP, IMO, killed the non politician person running and winning for 2 generations.
IMO, a complete and total disaster. His handling of the virus and the protesting has only fostered more division.

A real leader needs to bring people together. Not divide them further.

Nice analogy, you are right but how to make it happen with a country that is so divided that it's actually two different countries with very different centers.

If Jesse Ventura was still in politics and started a 3rd party … I'd join that.

My bet is that the move toward purple isn't because of slights to politicians or whatever.

It's more like the result of the state becoming more urban, have an increasing Hispanic population, a youth vote that is trending Democratic, and the gradual failure of the extreme gerrymandering used to maintain grossly disproportinate Republican control in Texas government.

Trump was stymied by the fact that his policy demands were preposterous.

You may like that he attacked our healthcare, immigration, and claimed he would be good for wage earners.

But, nobody could allow our healthcare system to be terminated without any replacement, his immigration ideas were and continue to be a startling human rights fiasco clearly based in racism, and abandoning our workers is just not acceptable - nor is it what he promised.

So, you may like the sound of what he said he wanted..

But, nobody can think what we got was better for America.

Certainly college campuses have made Socialism "trendy and fashionable" with the younger generation.

That doesn't change the fact that many on the right here, who will still vote for Trump over Biden, do not like Trump's personality or divisiveness. Trump's right wing policies will probably barely edge out current left wing policy haphazard uncertainty and propensity for violence this year as the deciding factors in the Texas vote...not the candidates.

Obama left a vacuum in the Democrat Party and a raging war between Liberals and the Far Left due to his egotistical narcissism and selfish focus on his personal legacy. Trump is likely to leave the Republican party in a similar shambles this year or in 2024, for very similar reasons.

Time for a Centrist 3rd Party yet? :)

Yes, between Trump and Hillary, there was not much way for Americans to "win". Trump's policy actions will possibly spare him from a loss this year, whereas he may lose not to Biden, but to his own personality flaws and disruptive style. His current "Law and Order" position may win him the day since the left is condoning riots and destruction.

~ Yes - I do believe if the right balance is there it could appeal to many voters - both to those who are disgusted and those who want an advancement in political thinking/ideas. This is one reason I wanted to see Tulsi Gabbard in the Trump administration dealing with mideast situations.
~ Sadly the way things are going we may not need another civil war. So far it seems China will take care of those problems for all of us .

Good point. While we bite at and spew venom at each other and watch hoodlums and anarchists burn down cities, a window of opportunity could certainly open for Russia/China to swoop down upon us, either with cyber-technology or by physical attack.

But hey, it's 2020. What more could possibly go wrong between now and the end of the year? Gotta' be all a downhill coast and easy sailin' from here on, right?

Today, Republicans serve Trump. And, nothing more. Republicans in congress have done absolutely nothing.

Who will they serve when he leaves?

    And, why will it matter?

If you want a "new" party, perhaps you could work to fix the Republican party - which once stood for something, but now does not.

We deploy troops over seas without a
Congressional Declaration of War per the Constitution.

I think lots across the political spectrum are opposed to
    incessant Not At War, Wars

Just woke up, hope it makes sense

Ha! They pledge allegiance to their country. Now we just don't know which country they claim! :cynic: No wonder they're supporting Joe Biden.
