"Politics, in a lot of cases, is people dealing with personal trauma at a distance". - Lauren Southern Wow, she hit the nail on the head. There are a few individuals in my life with views diametric to my own who represent this proposition perfectly... and it's so taxing. I understand how the aforementioned have arrived at their conclusions, though also see the missing spaces where reason and analysis is missing, aware of their psychological disorder(s) and how it affects their perception. What's worse is that there's no reaching them, they're long gone... facts contrary to their beliefs become confirmation of their bias, I become the personification of what they've erroneously come to loath. Who can relate?
I can relate. My uncle in Phoenix. I don't know if it's his views or simply because of his health issues. He wants the government to give him what he needs for free.
I have some friends who are Jewish who were rabidly Democrat who recently converted and will be voting for Trump and inform me that it's becoming a trend with Jews. These are people who are astonishingly intelligent and I used to bring up that fact when commenting on their former political views. I was mystified by their ability to rationalize glaring contradictions. Suddenly the scales have fallen from their eyes and now all we have to argue about is sports.
That's great to hear. Sometimes tables turn in the right direction. My opening post is quite doom and gloom, so I should also acknowledge that people can suddenly awake from slumber.
My sister. I'm a libertarian and she is a modern liberal so we clased on politics. Especially after she moved back to the UK. We would argue over the NHS. She loved it and thought the US should have Medicare for all. Until her husband got sick.
I have a conservative buddy with a left of left wife. He has been a traveling salesman all his life home only two days per week and at 75 he is afraid to quit as he would then have to live with her.
A couple of weeks ago about the peak of the BLM/systemic racism bullshit propaganda, my niece decided to take after her mother and went off on a bookface rant about how we all need to acknowledge the systemic racism against 'anyone not white'. I replied. I never reply. First I told her to get off that stupidass site. Then I told her the only systemic racism we have is against white men. She started blasting me with PM's telling me I couldn't post crap like I did because "a lot of people she works with are bookface friends". All she wanted was attention and do the SJW thing to kiss the people's asses she works with. All that cost her was being cut out of my will. She will never see a dime. That, my friends, was a $$$$$$$ 7 figure facebook post.
You're damn right. You hit the nail on the head. She started off proclaiming she was a "conservative, god-loving, gun-owning independent strong woman".....and then took a left so hard it would make Bolshevik Bernie and AOC proud. No relative of mine is going to pander to this bullshit. I'm done with her. She wants WOKE? She got it. No white privilege for her......it just wouldn't be kosher with her woke-ness. The little twit actually told me that she had more life experience around minorities than I did. This coming from a spoiled brat that grew up in Trophy Club/Grapevine TX. I owned a business in the HOOD for a decade. Once I had not one, not two, but three blacks pull a gun on me. She grew up in a ****ing country club.
Damn, you relate. I'm dealing with a South Texan who was once conservative (as anglo as can be) but now magically transformed into a peyote eating native. The consequences of this individuals instability are dire, as those consequences relate to my life and future life, and the lives of individuals who're too young to realize what's going on around them.
