not sure close consulate has anything to do with raising power? its not like its gonna affect their economy or military. If trump really want to slow down china economy, he should stay in TPP.

Every nation puts in consulates at port cities where it does a lot of business. They're one of the main employers of diplomatic personnel.

 

I don't have to imagine, I know. In 1999 the US rocketed the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade. The Chinese responded by closing the Embassy in Beijing and all the consulates in China except for the one in Shanghai. I was in China and had embassy business and had to fly to Shanghai.

Closing a consulate is not that big a a deal.

The Chinese find Trump to be useful, so they support his re-election. Trump gives them a free pass on human rights violations, and has weakened US Alliances, which allows for more Chinese expansion. Beijing is happy to allow a few tariffs for that.

 

Perhaps their hacking and theft of intellectual property should have consequences.

 

did Trump improve NK/Iran issue? did US-Iran relation stable or worst after Trump pull out the deal? did NK relation better when Trump said he will solve NK issue during campaign.
