Medicare began in 1966 under LBJ. The first two recipients of it's services were Harry Truman and his wife Bess.

 

A lot of folks, of both parties used to belong to the NRA. That all changed in the 70's when they decided to become a political lobby.

 

And Lee Harvey Oswald bought the rifle he killed JFK with, from an AD he saw in the NRA's publication The Rifleman.

 

~ Well let's face facts - Obama and Bush#2 are indeed clowns. You can really tell the difference in yesteryear political speak by watching them in interviews "off the cuff". Kennedy was very articulate and to the point - as was Reagan and Eisenhower. Obama sounds like a dope interviewed cold - takes 10 minutes to say one sentence. Bush sounds like a drunk.

John Kennedy campaigned on pushing forward with the Medicare Act. In 1961 President Kennedy made Medicare a legislative priority and recruited Clinton Anderson of New Mexico to manage his bill.
Kennedy was deceased by the time Medicare was signed into law.

 

You appear to be unaware of the big civil rights bill attempted to be passed by republicans in 1957, which Kennedy voted against. In fact there are numerous quotes of him saying very racist things so I am not surprised many democrats idolize him.

You forget their were multiple civil rights bills including at least three in the 50s that were stonewalled by Democrat filibusters.

 

I ignored that failed so called civil rights bill of 1957. Do you even know why he voted against it? Bet that you do not even care why he voted against it. You and other Trump supporters appear to only want to smear Democrats as racists because Biden is a Democrat and Biden is running against the Trumpocity. My perception is that you like many Trump. Ult followers do not give two damn about racial equality or justice or a fair even playing field for all Americans. You guy in my opinion only care to smear anyone who disagree with the Trumpocity or in Biden's running against the Trumpocity.

Why don't you do some research into the 1957 civil rights bill. Find out what the proposed provisions were. Find out what if any poison pills were buried in it. Find out if it even was a civil rights bill.

Read up on LBJ. Find out about his racist language. Then go and read how he got the real Civil Rights bills passed at the cost of turning the South away from the Democratic Party probably forever just for the sin of intergration and Civil Rights.

Passing bills is like making sausage. It ain't pretty.

Read up on the racist statements Lincoln made. Then balance that with the Emancipation Proclamation.

You are ignoring history. I know history therefore I am never surprised. All but one southern senator was a Democrat. SEN Tower of Texas was a republican. The Civil Right act was opposed by virtually all southern US Senators all 21 of them. and by the one Republican, Texas Sen Tower. One Southern Senator voted yes that was Sen Yarlborough a Democrat. So 21 out of 22 Southern senators voted no on the Civil right Bill.

You seem fixated on the myth that the opposition to Civil rights was a political party thing. You not not correct. Yet you are not alone in that belief in that myth.

45 NORTHERN Democrats voted for as in YES for the Civil right bill. 72 Northerners regardless of party voted yes, 6 opposed ( no).
One lonely SOUTHENER A democrat voted for the bill. Senator Byrd was the one Northern Democrat who opposed the Civil right Bill. Senator Strom Thurmon was still technically a Democrat when the Civil Rights Bill was voted on. He of course voted NO. Strom Thurmon became a Republican right after that.

SEE, told ya, it is a Southern thing.

I have been say this since the Ice Age the opposition to Civil Rights was a Southern thing NOT a political party thing. People who understand history and are not fooled by myths and lies know that the truth is that opposition to Civil Right is a Southern thing.
