He has not been 'identified' as the 'umbrella man' except in an email tip to LE. Which means not a lot (tho apparently enough for a search warrant...).

Well, the umbrella guy definitely was the agitator. You can have a peaceful crowd doing its thing and then someone demonstrating that the size of the crowd is such a good protection that you can start destroying property without fears of punishment.

My only point is that proving the identity would be extremely difficult. I’d believe it if I knew the guy confessed. Anything short of that would have reasonable doubt due to the difficulties identifying the perp. But once the identify is established - throw a book at him!

 

Cell phone records could pin down his location within a few meters. He may have trouble arguing that he is the pizza guy.

I wouldn’t be so confident about cell phone location. Just because they can theoretically (!!!!) triangulate his approximate location, it won’t be exact. Even if he was within 1 block radius, it won’t be enough to prove that it was him.
As far as I know cell phone companies don’t keep databases tracking each individuals exact location. They might have records showing interaction between that guys phone and the closest tower, but that’s about it.
