Supreme Court denies request to halt construction of the border wall

The Supreme Court by a 5-4 vote has denied a request to halt construction of President Trump’s border wall over environmental concerns.

A number of groups, including the ACLU and Sierra Club, had asked the high court to get involved again after the justices last year cleared the way for the administration to use military funds for construction while the case played out in the courts.

A federal appeals court had ruled against the administration last month, but the justices, for now, have given another temporary victory to the administration.

Trump is continuing to build the wall and build it tall.

This is another example of the importance of conservative justices on the Supreme court.

Border security is a critical national issue, particularly in light of human trafficking and drug smuggling as well as the china virus.

I will be so glad when November gets here and Trump becomes a lame duck and this wall stupidity is put to rest.

Homeland security says less than 6% of illegal immigrants come in via areas where the wall construction is proposed and a "negligible" amount of drugs.

The Democrats put billions into the budget for upgrading and reinforcing those places where illegals and drugs actually do come in and Trump shut down the government over it.

Billions have been diverted from the military which does protect the US.

And of course walls are always most effective at keeping people in not out as proven by the Berlin wall and prisons. Illegals who used to leave by those routes now would be kept in.

As Mr Rogers would query "Can you say counter productive?"

 

I'd be fine with a wall if they also tried to tackle overstayed visas. By not doing so they show that they just want to try and have the biggest show for the smallest effect possible.

Because if they were actually successful, then who would clean rooms in Trump's hotels or do the lawns of the nation's most rich and powerful.

 

Im going to have to disagree with you.

Its not that visa overstays are good.

Its that the people who take the effort to apply for a visa WANT to become legal immigrants.

And so the vast majority of overstays return home relatively quickly.

I would never opine about the immigration policies of another nation, would you?

When one side of a wall is heavily guarded, the Berlin wall or prison walls as examples. it keeps people inside the walls. Trump's folly is the same since going up a wall on the secured US side is dangerous and risks capture but on the Mexican side they can drive up to it with a ladder and quickly slide down the other, US, side. Far less risk of capture and frankly no more risk than exists already.
