It should be banned simply because it is stupid.

 

I doubt we will get the honest reasons that this app gets banned. It boils down to always citing the information security threat, although we could suppose or theorize other reasons. I would say its ok if we are demanding that the Chinese OK similar western apps that they also have banned for security reasons. I think its more targeted for its popularity.

 

It always amazing these forums survive.. Facebook is a gas.. Even 90 year old Mom loves it. Especially when you get into groups of 10K or more. It is great to see both sides of an argument and not live in an echo chamber

It is popular with young people and if China owns it I can see them directing youg minds and influencing electiions.

It's a quagmire.. virtual borders are tough to maintain.. The 17 year old kid who hacked twitter got twitter employees logins... somehow.. I bet he simply payed off the employees for the credentials. You would think an outfit as big as twitter would require bio authentication.

 

Im not sure how the app works as I have never used it, I believe it is a short video application that people can post on. Not sure how they can direct minds any more than any other platform. I have seen a lot of goofy skits, or the girl with the bernie shirt singing the boomer song. I dont believe China made that video popular, its the young pretty girl that did that. All platforms are used to sow disorder between countries with trolls pushing issues, its up to the user to filter it out.

If you could expand, Im confused to the spy data that can be acquired through TikTok as it just a short video app. I thought most peoples information is mostly public on the internet, or can be paid for. Are they spying on TikTok for economic information on people like most of the largest FREE western apps.

 

I think we should ban all the social media platforms. They are all just full of mind numbing banalities and fake propaganda aimed at creating more ignorant paranoia, hatred and division among people.
If people want to interact online, maybe they should do it in face to face groups like zoom or teams.
It would be interesting if a forum like this was run like that.

We should know by now that everything Trump does these days is directly related to his re-election attempt.

This is nothing but the same old Trump suggesting he has the power to ban social media at his peril.

What he is really after is censoring /banning Facebook and the rest. Like he wanted all along.

If he can get TikTok banned (using China as lame excuse) why not have Facebook and the like put on a leash as well?

I am sure Trump will come up with an excuse that he considers legal. Anything to supress voices that speak up against him.

Trump is just trying to find a backdoor into the same old story; trying to rig the election.

 

From what I’ve heard, looking at the details in its user agreement, people are basically signing all the property rights to the videos posted to the Chinese government. They essentially own everything posted in Tiktok.

That’s what I’ve heard; don’t quote me on it, though.

 

Instead of banning them, why not use them as a great teaching tool for kids? Help them to learn how to decipher the wheat from the chaff. Inspire them to learn how to investigate truth rather than swallowing all they are fed.

 

Can he do this? Can he simply put out these pronouncements willy nilly with no laws restraining him?

I guess next he will issue a Presidential Directive that everyone has to vote for him in the upcoming election and we can save all that unnecessary expense in November.

Trump at this point is like a wounded bear in its death throes. Far more dangerous than normal. He's realized that he's going to lose in November and then he faces prosecution for the instances of Obstruction that Mueller found with almost certain long jail time coming.

The Dem Congress has to offer him the deal that most corrupt pols get when they're caught. Resign now and you won't be prosecuted. I don't know what he'll do otherwise but it won't be good for us.

Its a place where you can make ALOT of money. Like youtube, Twitch, or any other streaming service. You can get paid for your videos if you know what you are doing.

Twitch is American based iirc. So no, that won't be banned.

As for "easy money"? You obviously do not know what people have to do to make a living doing Twitch or Youtube. They put in longer hours than anyone working a 9-5 job. And the payoff may not ever happen or will take years. The majority of Youtubers work a normal job along with doing Youtube.

 

Its still stealing access to people making money irregardless if its easy or not. The fact you acknowledge it takes hard work to build a following makes the situation that much worse. And what happens when Twitch acts like a business and china buys up majority stock? Then they are on the chopping block? Tiktock is slated to be American owned anyway, Microsoft was gonna buy em out.

 

I thought this was a joke when I saw it come up on my newsfeed. So Trump has banned Tik-tok, an app popular with 7 year olds! Perhaps Trump felt at home on that site until he got played

 

The man is a Buffoon, end of story. And we have now made him a Dangerous one at that...WTF. 4 more years? Nah.
