This past week, the NBA turned heads when every single player, coach, and referee took a knee during the National Anthem at the Pelicans/Jazz game. And they weren’t the only ones (see below).

It may have seemed patriotism had been put on ice, and as it turned out, it had.

Hence, on Saturday, -8/1/2020 -just before the New York Rangers took on the Carolina Hurricanes — each NHL player stood for “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Shame that this even needed to be part of a news article. Course, there are probably no SJW's <sarcastic> playing hockey.

I used to follow hockey quite a bit, and I've never seen anyone intentionally try to insult an entire country.

Oh.... the NHL is fully woke. They are fully down with diversity and inclusion.

    Cringe worthy.....

    How embarrassing.

Used to be that decent men were above politics - they just kept the farm going for the next generation, slept well at night, and had hands like old boots by the time they were 30.

This may be a wild guess.

But, my guess would be that the reason nobody knelt was because the NHL has a Minuscule Number of African-American Players.

Interesting that you should say that because almost all black NHL players in history have been Canadians. But when your only purpose is to use them politically I imagine that makes no difference to you.

A few times at MSG over the years I've forgotten to take my Ranger cap off during the anthem and I can always count on a tap on the shoulder from someone to remind me.

    Exactly.

Only about 25% of ALL players are American-Born.

The overwhelming majority of Black NHL Players are Canadian.

There is a very minuscule number of Black American NHL Players.

The last time I checked, I think the number was 6 (or less).

Also, the entire season is being played (in 2 bubbles) in Canada.

I fail to see why people not kneeling in the NHL (for games played in Canada) is even a big deal.

(Except for people who want to use such an expected occurrence as a way to throw shade at the NBA).

    Some kneel... Most don't kneel.

Neither is a bad stance and it's personal preference

Try not to let this ruin your day any more than it already is being a supporter of Fascism.

So is the purpose of kneeling intended to just insult Americans to their faces while playing in America? BLM seems to have infected quite a few white countries, so you would think no matter where they are, they would continue to flip off America and show their hate for us when the anthem is played.

And speaking of there just being 6 black players in the NHL, it's only a matter of time before that becomes an issue. Do you recall when Bryant Gumbel said the winter Olympics looked like a GOP convention? You can probably expect the woke among us to start jumping on the THE NHL IS RACIST bandwagon pretty soon. But I'm willing to bet you'll never see anything like the Rooney Rule in the NHL. The NHL is all about merit, not entitlement.

What has kneeling for our anthem solved?

Quite the opposite. It’s to show solidarity with all decent Americans who are fighting against white supremacists and their vile agenda in our country.

Why do you use words that apply almost exclusivity to democrats? This is just another word mangled by the left, kinda like what they did to the word racism. Can you think of anything more fascist than what democrats, BLM and woke people are doing right now? The only thing the left is missing is exalting America, a country they seem to openly hate.

    Definition of fascism
1 often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

You guys see white supremacists in your sleep, they own you.

Can you point out these white supremacists and the damage they're doing?

When I turn on the news, it's not white supremacists I see rioting, looting, burning, assaulting, murdering, doing drive bys that kill innocent people and more importantly, demanding that they be catered to by same people they say hate them. Can you guess who I'm talking about?

severe economic and social regimentation - Check
forcible suppression of opposition - Voter suppression is more subtle than the Nazi's, but Check

What was your point again? Oh, that the Fasism label doesn't apply to Trump??

    Guess again...

Voter suppression? You're kidding me. That's like saying when a bank demands ID of the person making a withdrawal suppression. And how is Trump a dictator? Did he make your school put boys in girl's bathrooms. Or did he force you to buy a product you didn't want?

I don't believe he did either of those things... because those are stupidly low level (and poor) examples of dictatorial efforts.

Here... please read about a big boy attempt at fascism.... Suggesting postponing a constitutionally mandated election.

Because no matter what the rules of the forum are, certain posters insist on breaking them to bring Trump in to every *******n thread. IF you want to discuss Trump, go to one of the thousands of threads about him and post there.

I didn't mention Trump up front... Steve made the claim that the D's preferred a 'dictatorial leader'. Couldn't let that lie go unchallenged...

But any thread about athletes kneeling, or not kneeling, is bound to end up there eventually. LOL that you think it won't.

It seems a bit of a stretch to call it patriotism given how many NHL players aren't even American.

There is also evidence in the very article of an NHL team supporting the call for equality, just expressing it in a different manner. They probably didn't notice at RedState since their article seems to be pretty much just copy-pasted from other sources (those sources themselves being little more than "Look at what these people Tweeted").

It used to be farmers didn't have the time, energy, or anyway to communicate in a timely manner.

Now they do, and they communicate plenty.

Things have changed since 1820, 200 hundred years ago..

    Exactly?

You were the one that called them "African American", not I.

I know most if all of them are not American.

I couldn't tell you which black NHL players were American (if any) because I don't care.

The point is that hockey players show respect to their host countries by standing at attention for their national anthems.

Unlike uncivilized black American gangsters that proliferate the other three sports and who - despite the fact they make millions - often wind up broke and or dead in the street.

The NHL does not exactly have a big fan base among the Afro-American crowd so they feel safe.

So now that the NHL has decided to support ending racism, what will Trump lovers watch for sports now?
