He said that by the end of 2020 the payroll tax break could be extended.

“Hopefully I’ll be here to do the job,” Trump said, hinting at the results of Election Day.

The president also said he would extend unemployment benefits, defer student loan payments and interest, and extend the eviction moratorium as well as an order requiring health insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions.

“If Democrats continue to hold this critical relief hostage, I will act under my authority as president to get Americans the relief they need,” he said.

The president said that the lawyers were drawing up the executive orders and that they could be signed by the end of the week.

Asked whether he was concerned about the legality of his executive order, Trump replied, “No, not at all. You always get sued, everything you do you get sued … we’ll see.”....

...But Trump said he was determined to help Americans still struggling with the virus and the cost of the economic shutdowns despite unprecedented obstruction from Congressional Democrats.”...

Thank you President Trump! You care about the average American suffering from the effect of the China virus on their jobs, education, and homes. I’m glad that you plan to use executive orders to use unspent funds from prior China virus bills to fund unemployment benefits, college loan relief, and mortgage/rent relief.

Will Dems make a deal to stop the executive orders or will they dig in and then sue in court to take away people’s unemployment, student loan relief, and security in their homes because they couldn’t win tax cuts for the rich in blue states or more funding for poorly run blue cities and states? Will the lamestream media allow them to continue to hold regular Americans hostage to getting their special interests wants met?

This is fundamentally backwards. The payroll tax cut will help people who still have jobs - those LEAST affected by the effects of Covid. Also, if it is supposed to help those who need it, There should be a threshold so that it only applies to those earning below a certain amount.

What is really needed is to get money into the hand is people who aren’t earning ANY That’s what the House Dems proposed and the Senate Rs and the WH are blocking.

In the United States, Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution gives Congress the power to "lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States. This is also referred to as the "Taxing and Spending Clause".

Trump does have them between a rock and a hard place here. Do Dems sue to stop the EO's due to the possible constitutional overreach? In which case Repubs get political ammo of Dems not caring (which I suspect anyways) or do they let it go and Trump gets to claim a victory and possibly expanding the Executive Branch's power during anything related to a pandemic?

Dems should have let go the bail out for failing Democrat State/Cities. They may have made the situation for themselves far worse. They could have gotten those bail outs if they gained control in November. Guess the Elites aren't so sure of thier victory despite thier claims.

Well, Obama suspended the law for hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens. Surely if he can do that then Trump can suspend the tax law on a temporary basis....right? He's not making law, he's just suspending it.

It matters not if they care since it is the law. Trump is pushing his luck and overreaching his legal ability....

And there you have it folks! When it suits your own agenda, the Constitution of the USA may be ignored. Nah. Comply with it, or change it.

The package passed by the Dems in the House helps people who are unemployed and who actually need help. Republicans are blocking that.
Trump’s proposal helps people Who are still employed and who are actually capable of paying rent and buying food.

Why don’t Republicans care about the people who really need help?

You do make a good point that trump will play this for political purposes but that is the only thing this is about. It isn’t about helping the people who need help. It’s about politics.

Where did I say he suspended tax law for illegals? Oh right, I didn't. The law is the law regardless if it's tax law or some other law. If the law can be suspended in one spot then it can be suspended in others. You don't get to pick and choose which laws you support being suspended and which ones don't.

This is what you get when you allow one President to ignore the law. As they say... The pendulum swings both ways.

And this will also have the effect of defunding Social Security and Medicare.

Why do Trump supporters hate vulnerable Americans so much?

Kal, you are wrong to defend Trump's disregard for the Constitution on the basis that some-one else did it. That is rubbish.

You got it exactly wrong! Virtually all of what Trump is doing benefits those with no job. Extra unemployment weekly benefits, preventing students from having to pay student loans or interest with school out or if unemployed after attending college, prevents unemployed from losing their home or apartment. The other parts protect people needing health insurance and stimulates the economy by giving workers more money to put into the economy.

Did it do that when Obama did a temporary payroll tax holiday in 2009-10?
