The Constitution says the Executive branch controls the enforcement of laws. Obama opened the door for this when he didn't enforce immigration laws, now Trump is simply not going to enforce payroll tax collection. It would be highly hypocritical of liberals to whine about this if they gave Obama a free pass on immigration...

Trump “deferred” the payroll tax. Please understand what that means.
You would either pay as you do currently or stop the withholding and pay the lump sum at the end of the year.

So, no, he did not do that. He says he did but the language to do that is not in the memo he signed. The taxes in question were enacted by Congress. No President has the authority to forgive taxes. He claims to have deferred the taxes, but that's a bad thing because the people have to pay them later.

Unless he can convince Congress to pass a new law. Which he has no support to achieve.

So his memo (not an executive order) makes a big pretend but changes nothing.

Of course if anyone tries to apply his memo and does not collect the tax, they are going to find themselves in a lot of difficulty later when they have to catch up their tax debt.

You don't know what happened, do you? About 20 or so Republican Senators are fighting against a lot of new spending.

But we have to find a way to create enough demand for the things we can produce consistent with a low number of new virus cases. Conventions, sporting events, concerts, dance clubs, bars, restaurants, gyms, conventions, schools--they must either modify how they operate or not open at all.

If we allow stuff like the Trump-supported "open up" protests, the BLM protests, churches to gather in large numbers, bars and restaurants to pack them in, gatherings like the bikers in South Dakota, people to have large parties, and so on, we'll have enough virus around that people won't go to stores even if they're open. It will kill the economy. Maybe we have to choose between bars and schools.

If we can get our new cases down, we can test and contact trace to cut off lines of transmission. That way we can open up more. But we will have to discipline ourselves to do what we have to do to keep the virus in check. If not, we could kill off a lot of people and perhaps with it the moral authority to govern.

The next step in the Trump v. Biden Drama is Biden saying what he'd do about the virus. Trump has shown he doesn't have answers, so it's natural we turn to Joe. He can close the deal if he has a plan.

Do we want what they have in Europe, Canada, Japan, South Korea, and Australia?



If we want it, Joe should come up with a plan to get us there.
