The stated purpose of government-run education, by Horace Mann, father of American public education, was to create good government citizens who were obedient workers, did not question authority. There was also the matter of Catholic school influences, as the Catholics were willing to educate anyone at a very low price, that Mann and his contemporaries wanted to override with "good Protestant values." Then there was also the problem of immigrants still being immersed in their own cultures. Again, Mann and his contemporaries wanted to homogenize the population.

I won't speak to the liberal/conservative aspect. Government schools teach children to believe that there is no question that government authority is unlimited, even if kept in check by some documents. They are taught hat, without government schools, Americans would be uneducated and unwashed rabble, though there is no historical evidence for that belief. They are taught to believe that the government school model, whereby children are made to sit for 7 hours a day, 5 days a week; segregated by age; instructed by an authority figure; and graded like meat, is the best model for education and that those authorities in government education know what is best.

If you want to send your kids to private school, pay for it yourself. Don't expect the taxpayers to pay for it for you.

Make The Censorious Nazi Bastards Pay!

Republican senators’ new bill looks to strip funds from public universities that restrict free speech.

U.S. Senator Tom Cotton introduced sweeping legislation on Thursday that would require universities to support a variety of free speech measures or face penalties.

The “Campus Free Speech Restoration Act,” prohibits free-speech zones, because ALL OF AMERICA IS A FREE SPEECH ZONE!

It creates a system to allow students to report First Amendment violations, especially by Nazi Censorious Bastard Professors who make their hatred of any who disagree with them, clear, even if it means publicly slandering conservative students in the classroom. Good Sen Cotton's legislation will empower the Department of Education to revoke eligibility for federal funding from public and private colleges that violate protected free speech.
The Courageous Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) proudly cosponsored the legislation, which makes it a 2020 campaign issue. Are you for Nazi Censorship in our Universities or are you for our Declaration of Independence and US Constitution that SECURES our INDIVIDUAL right to speak freely?

The indoctrination is very successful - in many ways - and in other ways perhaps not -

It depends on how one measures "success" - and it also depends on knowing what to look for - what to measure.

It is the guidelines that Professors must follow that is part of the indoctrination process - - but I am thinking prior to college - looking at the 12 years of education that average Joe gets.

much indoctrination goes on during that time period - and this is especially related to "The Guidelines"

    I've cited example after example:

FIGHT THE POWER, STICK IT TO THE MAN: Professor who may be fired for refusing to undergo diversity training is not backing down. It’s not “training,” it’s racist political indoctrination.

We've cited Example, After Example, After Example, where are you?

ANTI-IMMIGRANT RACISM IS EVERYWHERE: Fordham University bans pro-freedom Chinese immigrant from campus without an escort.
We are so fed up with these University Censorious Nazi Bastards. We need legislation that strips Federal Funding from any school that strips the free speech rights of others.

Censorious Nazi Bastards of U. OF CENTRAL FLORIDA GOES MEDIEVAL ON PROFESSOR for "Wrong-Think": Holding a 9-hour, 2-part inquisition into a professor’s in-class speech, complete with anonymous and ill-defined accusations, because of the below tweet.

The examples of these Censorious Indoctrinating Nazis abound

IF YOU’RE ASIAN, UNIVERSITIES WILL DISCRIMINATE AGAINST YOU, THEN PUNISH YOU FOR COMPLAINING ABOUT IT: University Of Pittsburgh Cardiologist Is Stripped From Fellowship Program After Criticizing Affirmative Action.
    Wrong-Think!
That's a testable statement, but the censorious Nazi Bastards, rather than refuting it, had the paper pulled and the Doctor pulled from the fellow-ship.

They are evil. They violate the rights of others to free-thought, without hesitation, brutally punishing any who dare not to conform.

Time to complain to the grant-making agencies under Executive Order 13864.

Ok but when I was in kindergarten just learning to tie my shoes the "proper" way was a major undertaking for my teacher to pull off. My way of tying them in as many knows as I could worked good enough for me and they never came untied.

    Seriously? The examples abound.

IT’S EVEN WORSE THAN YOU THINK ON CAMPUS: City Journal shows why the typical American college campus has become a kill-zone for learning, logic and liberty:
They are slander filled liars inciting violence against the innocent who in their twisted racist poisoned minds are guilty simply due to their skin color.

If Your School District Pulls What One Tennessee District Has, Know Your Rights.

“A founding teacher at the Science Leadership Academy in Philadelphia also took to Twitter to express concern over parent observation of virtual classes. His laments about parents, especially conservative parents, had been retweeted over 1,000 times before he locked his account. Retweeting means other people were sharing his concerns with their own followers.”

If they don’t want you to know what they’re doing, it’s because they’re up to no good.

Check out this racist indoctrination being pushed on elementary schoolchildren. This was shared by one of the founders of the news website Breaking911.com. After his daughter’s first day of 2nd grade distance learning, he announced on Twitter that she would not be returning to her school.
Who do these bastards think they are, using taxpayer funding and granted authority to brainwash our seven year olds in their sick twisted demented racist crap?

He then provided context for his comments using pictures from the material used to teach. The blatant messages in this lesson are hard to miss.

This is the second grade "English" class this Dad saw when his daughter logged in for distance learning:

The Mexican kids were sent away and forced to sit in the dirt with flies around them and an electric fence that shocked them because white people are bad. This is NOT a civil rights lesson. This is self-hate & fake white privilege.

This prompted another district in Tennessee to try and shield their curriculum from the prying eyes of parents. According to the Tennessee Star:
Can you guess what the answer is to THAT outlandish demand by these left-wing indoctrinating arrogaters?
So "parents leave the room while we steep your child in these rotted demented twisted racist lies about American Society"?

A founding teacher at the Science Leadership Academy in Philadelphia took to Twitter to express concern over parent observation of virtual classes. His laments about parents, especially conservative parents, had been retweeted over 1,000 times before he locked his account. Retweeting means other people were sharing his concerns with their own followers. He put this up for other teachers to respond to:
What does :equity and inclusion work" mean, that's what they call the pictures that are earlier in this post. Matthew concluded his thread with:

Another teacher gave her perspective to Campus Reform when they were interviewing young adults about what they knew about the 4th of July. She states explicitly she ignores the required curriculum and instead teaches about racial equity:

This crap-load of garbage that replaces history, English, math, and social studies. Some of this curriculum is based on garbage products like the 1619 Project in an attempt warp an entire generation views of America's Constitutional Liberal Democracy. Parents need to object loudly and often, these types of programs teach students to focus on their outward identities rather than develop their own unique talents and ideas and rob them of pride in their noble heritage.

These arrogant self-righteous nitwits place blame onto particular students based solely on the color of their skin and other characteristics children have no control over. Studies in adults demonstrate these kinds of programs delivered to adults on the job confirmed that they resulted in increased resentment rather than cohesion. Our children are not their lab rats for them to play with their demented social theories. If they don't want to educate, then get the hell out of the classroom.

Parental involved in a child’s education is proven to increase their student’s academic performance. This is why Section 1116 of the Every Student Succeeds Act addresses parental input into the curriculum and other areas of their children’s educational experience. Parents are guaranteed:
Parents have every right to observe their child’s classroom. Parents have every right to access and monitor lessons being streamed into their own homes. They have every right to understand, fully, what and how their children are being "taught." And yes, it's horrifying. The presumption of benevolence that we once gave to our education establishment has to give way to the reality that they are now controlled by people who hate America and Americans as violently as the arsonists, looters, and assaulters destroying our cities.

Vile Hate-filled Twisted Left-Wing "Teachers"’ Unions Rapidly Falling Out of Favor With Americans. Is It Any Wonder?

Last month, the Supreme Court agreed to take up the case Uzuegbunam v. Preczewski, where a Georgia public college weaponized its speech zone policies to silence a black Christian student who dared to preach the gospel on campus. While the college has since dropped its absurd speech zone restrictions, the student is seeking damages so the college cannot claim it was in the right to silence him. In the course of defending the college, Attorney General Christopher M. Carr (R-Ga.) briefly argued that Uzuegbunam’s preaching of the gospel constituted “fighting words” and therefore was not protected by the First Amendment.

Chike Uzuegbunam tried to share his Christian faith on the campus of Georgia Gwinnett College, a public college in Lawrenceville, Ga. College officials stopped him because he had not reserved one of two tiny speech zones where free expression was allowed without a permit. The ignorant officials were unaware that ALL OF AMERICA IS A FREE SPEECH ZONE! The two zones combined were these nazi indoctrinators claimed were the only places were free speech were allowed amounted to 0.0015 percent of the campus.

So Uzuegbunam reserved half of this tiny area and obtained approval for his speech from the college, and again tried to share his faith. Still officials again ordered him to stop because some Snowflake complained that Uzuegbunam’s preaching of the gospel made him or her “uncomfortable.”
The Supreme Court took up the case after a broad array of organizations filed friend-of-the-court briefs in support of Uzuegbunam, including the American Humanist Association, Americans for Prosperity Foundation, CatholicVote.org Education Fund, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, Islam & Religious Freedom Action Team of the Religious Freedom Institute, the Jewish Coalition for Religious Liberty, and Young Americans for Liberty.

I think a case could be made that the overall feeling about public education insofar as a indoctrination into liberal/ egalitarian mind set. The grading bell curve for example. The elimination of gifted programs in favor of programs minorities favor. The obvious favoring of girls over boys with help and discipline. Educational boards all over the country do this.
These examples may not be specific enough for you but they are derived from modern educational theory which is so anxious to be equal it is willing to disable the intelligent in favor of the unintelligent. The obvious result being much more girls in college than boys Lower educational standards to graduate resulting in more dummies in college racking up student loan debt and tougher standards for non minorities to get to college. But it doesn’t matter, because equality is the goal- not actual education.
As far as indoctrination goes, yes this is an indoctrination into how society will favor some over others. School is a child’s first glimpse.

    1) The very best way to teach kids tolerance and egalitarianism via literacy, is to have them read/write about those who are different due to their actions, not due to some accident of birth or immutable and irrelevant personal attribute. Besides, very VERY few families have two dads, so exposing kids to that idea without accompanying provisos and preparation, is incredibly confusing. It's never in the childrens' interest. It's always a function of adult preferences. Math is of course, essential, as is science.

    2) The premise should be don't teach anything which can be disagreed with, period. No one is going to disagree with 1 + 1 = 2, but plenty of people will disagree with teaching kids the earth is flat, or that boys can be girls if they were a dress.
