How many trucking lines can deal with this?

And they have already looted flat screen tv's off MOVING trains.

You get a bunch of "peaceful" looters who use a phone app to block a road or train tracks-have their buddies waiting with vans, and they speed off in a couple minutes.

Do you think that if this trucking company won't deliver in the city, that no other trucking company will, either? Come on ... those delivery contracts would be picked up by a competitor in a New York minute.

What does any of that have to do with trucking? You make no sense. Also, I believe I used the word "most," not "all." How about you link to evidence of truckers being in danger from protesters, and from this year.

And what makes you think this guy's competitors won't eagerly pick up those delivery contracts?

    Don't be snarky.

Why did he drive that tanker at speed into a crowd? The city had set up alternate routes to avoid the protests. And why was he driving so fast into a crowd of pedestrians? I'm not doubting your side here, just pointing out poor judgment. He put himself into the middle of that, for some reason.

As for the train, those were looters, opportunist, the type that follow any protest hoping for an opportunity to steal stuff. No protest organizer can police the entire crowd, something I know from personal experience. No matter how much you urge and cajole for a peaceful protest, thete's a fringe that will ignore you and start smashing and looting, using your protest as cover. That's nothing new.

Working in this industry, we have had little or no difficulty in finding carriers to go to these cities.

No the city had not blocked all of the on ramps, and the trucker had no idea what was going on.

If you want to defend people who haven't figured out basic physics be prepared for the results, because they are gonna happen.

If this worsens and continues to be a thing requiring changes in insurance do you think that will still be the case.

Give the number of trucks out there, it will likely never become a real issue.

Must narrow it down some more. How about from last Thu, between the hours of 3:00 PM and 3:02 PM. Right? :D

It is what it is - the trucking company's owner is worried about his drivers' safety more about his lost profits. What's wrong with that? Why must you qualify and quantify what is obviously is very commendable?

Oh, I'm not gainsaying his choice, I think it's laudable. But I don't think it makes much of a political statement, nor will it change anything.

My dad was an owner-operator reefer driver for years. There were many cities he would not take loads to. He was self employed so had the option. New York City, New Orleans, Chicago were all on that list. He had numerous experiences of people jumping on the running board of his truck in broad daylight and trying to get in.

You often don’t have a choice of not delivering at night. Warehouses are often 24 hour operations and you take the slot they give you. If you refuse it you go to the back of the line and may not get unloaded for two days. Even if you accept a daylight slot it isn’t uncommon for delays inside the warehouse to spill over to the unloading docks. Then your 3:00 pm appointment turns into a 9:30 pm one and when you are unloaded you have to drive through the city to find a truck stop to park because you are out of log hours and can’t drive somewhere safer.

The company in the OP hauls produce and other refrigerated/frozen food products. In cities, produce markets where the warehouses are located are generally in the worst parts of town for crime and violence statistics.

Without a robust police presence, driving through and parking in such areas with thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of product in your truck is foolish if not downright suicidal.

It may save the life of an employee of this company. That seems important to me.
