“In a Thursday night appearance on Fox News' "Ingraham Angle," the Hall of Famer Holtz used a World War II reference to support his point that playing college football in the fall is necessary.”

"People stormed Normandy," Holtz said to host Laura Ingraham. "They knew there was going to be casualties, they knew there was gonna be risk. ... It's our way of living, look at it from both points of view. The risk is always there. But you cannot just look at it from one side.”

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...on/5414975002/

So now playing college football, that is college football, a game, a game that will most likely be played next year if not this year, draws comparison to invading the beaches of Normandy.

Either Lou is clueless of what occurred at Normandy, or, he just don’t get it, most likely both.

It is also a significantly large business across the country. Holtz, like most people involved in football, doesn't live a life of fear like a segment of America is doing.

The loses any business regardless of size doesn’t compare to the sacrifices on the beaches of Normandy, Lou’s even raising the analogy shows he understands little of Normandy or COVID

Not “living a life of fear,” rather, common sense

Seems like that large business ought to better compensate its players if its going to ask players to act against their self interests during a pandemic.

Getting real tired of this condescending rationalization. How come you don't drink bleach? Is it because you're afraid, or because you know its just a damned dangerous thing to do? Boo-hoo no college football. Maybe the thugging frat boys can use the downtime to hit the books and the colleges can spend take the obscene amounts of money they otherwise would have dumped into this neanderthal pastime and improve their online learning capacities? Heh, yea right, the players will spend the season off chugging lethal levels of goldschlager and molesting clueless coeds and the colleges will either use the money on staff perks or blow it on SJW pandering programs.

All of these people who want to go through with the season are risking a slight chance of dying themselves (in the case of the athletes themselves) vs. them playing well which translates to literally potentially millions of dollars. I cant blame them but let's acknowledge there positions and biases. I do blame them for who they might run into in the course of them trying to make their millions who might get sick because of them.

Yeah, that's a little over the top Lou....

But that is one of the great problems with college football as it stands today... Not enough Tank obstacles or Nazi pillboxes shooting at the players...

Now THAT would be a sport!

Currently, college football seems to be in the pockets of BLM. Whatever BLM says, football does. From the Pac-12:

    https://www.theplayerstribune.com/en-us/articles/pac-12-players-covid-19-statement-football-season

Because NCAA sports exploit college athletes physically, economically and academically, and also disproportionately harm Black college athletes, #WeAreUnited.

In rejecting the NCAA’s claim that #BlackLivesMatter while also systematically exploiting Black athletes nationwide, #WeAreUnited.

I am very disappointed with Holz a ROTC graduate who became an officer in the Army reserve should never have schiested on the men who gave up their lives for freedom by equating the sacrifice made by the greatest generation to playing football. I am a college football fan but football is a game in college not life. Holz is in his 80's time for Holz to ****.

It was a game when Lou was coach, but it has since been ruined by political correctness and the BLM mafia.

That's a pretty negative broad brush you're painting with.... Sure, there are the Kaepernicks in football, but also Tim Tebows.

Sports is also the best opportunity some of these kids have to earn a scholarship. I wonder if/how this may impact that.

I know kids who've worked their butts off to succeed in sports, keep their grades up, and earn athletic scholarships because that was their best (or only) chance at college and a better life. There is a lot more to college sports than the BS we're seeing in professional sports right now.

    Just for another perspective.

Also, Goldschlager? Do they still make that? I didn't think that had been cool since around when I was graduating from high school :p

If we plan to go through life fearful then we might as well close everything and wait to die. I'm not going to live that way.

Comparing playing football in a pandemic to Normandy is a really really bad take. Figures that this would be on a Laura Ingraham episode.

This kind of thing is inevitable. We are fortunate it isn't much worse. With worldwide travel all a virus has to do is hitch a ride and spread. This is more like a common cold bug. I heard that a common cold could kill an Eskimo. But I ain't no doctor.
