If you think Israel, Iran, Libya, Syria and Lebanon are the only crisis' going on in the Mediterranean, guess again? The architect of Turkey's Blue Homeland (Aegean & Eastern Med.)Admiral Cem Gurdeniz said that if Greece attacks (to defend it's territorial rights), they will leave Nato.

In the meantime France said on Thursday that it was "temporarily reinforcing" its military presence in the eastern Mediterranean in support of Greece. Tensions between France and Turkey were already high over their support for opposing sides in Libya’s conflict.

The EU’s 27 foreign ministers rallied behind Greece and Cyprus over its territorial dispute with Turkey in the eastern Mediterranean, and issued a warning that Turkish naval mobilizations were exacerbating an already grave situation.

Here are Turkey's words of wisdom:

"...Turkey on Sunday blasted a defense agreement between France and Cyprus as “unacceptable”.

"...Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay on Sunday called France's stance in the eastern Mediterranean “spoiled and aggressive.’’

"...They (France) will not get anywhere by acting like bullies, whether in Libya, the northeast of Syria, in Iraq or the Mediterranean."

"...Oktay called on international circles, starting with the EU, to take action against France..."

“...We will never bow to banditry on our continental shelf. We will not back down against the language of sanctions and threats,” Erdogan said in a speech to members of the ruling party in the city of Rizuda. On Friday on the same wavelength, he warned that "if Greece continues to attack Oruc Reis in the eastern Mediterranean, Turkey will retaliate."

"...Cavusoglu insisted that Turkey was looking for a peaceful solution to the crisis and was only expecting "common sense" from Greece..."

"... Turkey says Greece is using its control of a few tiny islands off the coast of Turkey to claim an outsized share of the Mediterranean Sea..."

Okay so what goes between Greece and Turkey? The Greek islands together with Cyprus cover almost all of the Eastern Mediterranean. Turkey believes those lands and seas were taken away from them unfairly at the end of WWI. To them everything belongs to their former empire, and it doesn't matter if the people living there aren't Turks. They have no problem kicking them off as they have shown with the Armenians, Greeks, Assyrians and more recently with the Kurds.

In 1923 Attaturk was fearful that the Treaty of Sevres might be signed, and it divided Anatolia among its Greek, Armenian and Assyrian inhabitants, so he signed the Treaty of Lausanne. That treaty gave Turkey the Greek cities and towns on the mainland, and Greece took the islands and the waters surrounding them.

Today the Greek waters in the Eastern Med., together with the Cypriot waters gives them the opportunity to pass a gas pipeline from Israel to Europe, as well as to search for oil and gas in the mineral rich waters.

In the map below, the tan lines are the delineation zones of the countries involved. The blue lines show the claims of Erdogan and the Muslim Brotherhood Pres. Saraj of Libya. Notice how they completely ignore the Greek island of Crete and cut right through it, as well as the island of Rhodes and some smaller islands.

In order to undo Turkey's grab of the Greek waters, the Greek PM signed a separate Treaty with Egypt - which you can see with the red lines. It undercuts Turkey's theft so Turkey is furious.

Erdogan wants to rebuild the Ottoman Empire. He is really causing trouble internally with NATO. Greece should not put up with their ****. France is doing the right thing sending warships to stand with Greece.

Erdogan is goaded by the nationalists to be more aggressive, and if something happens to him, there will definitely be a war with Greece. The Greek people will not give up their sovereignty, even though there is a lot of psychological warfare coming from Turkey. The Turks talk of 'liberating' the Greek islands, and even have maps showing the populated and prosperous islands of Rhodes, Lesvos, Chios, and Samos as being part of Turkey.

yeah, Greeks have never been one to be conquered easily, whether they faced Persians, Ottomans, or Nazis. They always put up a hell of a fight. Their economy might be sucking, but the people have a strong sense of cultural identity.

When the North Korean army was moving through the American ranks like a hot knife through butter, it was the Greek contingent who tore directly into the North Korean army essentially humiliating it.
This is what the Greeks do!

Personally, I don't see many major powers getting involved militarily in a continuation of the Greece-Turkey spat. This was an interesting read though:

Really any by-the-numbers military comparison favors Turkey rather heavily. See this one for example:

Turkey will cease to exist shortly. Welcome to Kurdistan and the Treaty of Sevres. This is what Erdogan has been trying to prevent by becoming more aggressive. He said: "It's either that, or we will cease to exist." This is why he has forces illegally in Libya, Syria, Iraq, Cyprus and is threatening Greece.

Erdogan is cautious though, that's why he's been able to be in so many countries without arousing too many feathers. Should he fall and a foolhardy nationalist takes over in Ankara, that's when Turkey's problems with Russia will start - and it will also be the start of World War III.

Here's a map of the Treaty of Sevres. Today of course the situation is different, so the map isn't exactly accurate. Most of the coastal areas along the Aegean and Black Sea will probably revert back to the Greeks - but it won't be Greece, but rather a new formed nation. It will also include Constantinople, since it will be a sticking point for Russia and the West.

During WWII, the Greeks pushed back Mussolini's army when they tried to invade. The humiliation was so great, that Hitler had to delay his invasion of Russia to send forces to Greece. This is probably why Churchill said: "Greeks don't fight like heroes, heroes fight like Greeks."

It didn't do the Greeks well though, because an Italian occupation would have been a lot more humane than the German one.

Yep, I was in Turkey all last week. May I say those are some whiney little bitches. The Oruc Reis..which is Turkey's oil & gas seismic exploration ship....was all over the TV. Erdogan was rattling about 'fairness' and tiny islands that mean nothing.....loosely translated they have no offshore O&G rights to speak of so they want to share what is not their's.

If Turkey presses...I'd think Greece would light them up. They're trespassing. May as well run a torpedo in the Orus Reis and end this fiasco. I don't know how many tanks are on the European side of the Bosporus, but there are only 3 bridges and one tunnel to take out to totally cut off mainland Turkey from Istanbul (Constantinople).

I also watched some muslim rattle on and on about 15 or so mosques in Greece that have been converted to museums and other things yet not one mention of the Hagia Sophia being stolen from the Christians and converted into that god-awful muslim bastardized mosque.

There's a helluva lot of Christian and Greek history in Turkey they have essentially wiped off the map...the rest they are cashing in on it with tourism.

Turkey and Russia cant stand eachother. They are fighting on opposite sides in both Syria and Libya. And you think a tower in Istanbul makes Trump and Erdogan buddies? You make zero sense.

Turkey has 80 million people, Greece has 11 million - if at that. A million are probably Muslims. Also Greece has thousands of islands, which means thousands of miles of boundaries to protect. Legally the islands are not supposed to be armed. Yeah right Turkey!

Anyway Greece has spent years and a fortune in trying to protect the islands. Hurting Greece economically was Turkey's intent. They always started their threats and provocation during tourist season, hoping it would scare the tourists way.

Russia has fought 16 wars with Turkey and won. I'm sure Putin is keeping an eye on what he sells to Turkey, he's not stupid. Right now Turkey is in desperate straights economically, and if anything happens to Erdogan - who Putin is able to control somewhat, then the nationalists will take over. They are the ones goading Erdogan in his adventurism.

Turkey has no plan to leave NATO and NATO has no plan to kick Turkey.
Turkey is more imported ally for NATO rather than gadfly and old ottoman colony post-communist Greece. And we will continue to drill at OUR OWN EEZ.

Maybe your prime minister (as you are a Greek) Mistocakis should make more blowjob to European leaders to get more support. However Germany has already supported Turkey and European Union is really uninterested for Greek maximalist claims at East Mediterranean.

By the way, noone cares about France. Turkey supports United Nation backed Tripoli goverment, it is legal one. It is over for France.

Italy, England, Germany supports Turkey at Libya and United States will do soon.

We all support Trump for next election and you crpto-Greek democracts will receive the answer soon!

Stop being ridiculous! According to whose law is it 'your' EEZ? Oh that's right, Turkey has made itself a law unto itself. Anyway your Turkish history is getting nuttier and nuttier. When was Greece a communist country?

Saraj is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood like Erdogan, and I don't think Egypt is too happy about that. Anyway from what I found out, Erdogan will not last much longer so you'll probably get the war you want - and then the events will unfurl just the way I said they will.
