I've been pondering the methods for voting amid all the hoopla over the efficiency of the USPS (aka "snail mail").

All things being what they are, would you consider voting if an app was created to ensure your vote was counted? Would they be a way to do away with polling places and snail mail?

What method will you use to vote this coming election?

At the polling place with a mask as if I was going to Walmart. What's the difference? Democrats instilling fear.

From what I'm reading on this forum and others, the concern is many will have to wait for a long time to get through lines at the polling places. A trip to Walmart really isn't a fair comparison as that usually goes much quicker.

Would you be interested in voting if there was a smartphone app to do so?

In a perfect world yes. But I think a smart phone app would be more susceptible for fraud.

I love the idea of voting electronically either via app or online. My concern is not fraud since I believe with proper design they would be infinitely safer than voting machines or mail in voting. My concern would be can we create an infrastructure to keep the data safe. I do not mean from a technological perspective but from a bureaucracy perspective.

In what ways? It seems like it would be harder to commit fraud because the owner's information is already verified.

Good point. It could very well work if there was some kind of information management security company (3rd party) to safeguard the data.

You are more likely to die by a 300-pound woman in leopard stretch-pants falling on you than by dying from no mask. Especially at Walmart.

Hand carry my absentee ballot to the government center.

With Trump's pet Anti-American Postal crook trying to destroy the USPS so his private companies get the mail business I want to make sure my vote gets counted.

It that as likely if she is NOT wearing leopard print stretch pants? ;-0

I should have made that one of the options. Sounds like a good idea.

I live in Oregon. Its been doing this 'all' vote by mail election for decades. All that really means is the little old lady sitting there handing you the right ballot, and handing you a "I voted' sticker when you are done, is gone from the scene. Lots of drop boxes everywhere. For us this whole bugaboo about voting through the mail, is more amusing than scary.

Sounds like you all have it down pat. From what I'm reading, it seems like people are annoyed because it's something new. They are used to standing in line, getting the ballot from the volunteer, voting, etc. I also get the impression that people aren't trusting the whole mail delivery system and while that's understandable, there aren't any real alternatives. I just hope the speculation about the results becoming a long legal battle don't happen. It's been a heck of a year thus far. I think we could all use a mental health break. ;-0

Those working at polling stations are 90% senior citizens! Lines will be longer, I don't shop at walmart I use instacart. Everything isn't about you.

I didn't ask you for your opinion. I answered a poll question and you want to jump on me? Stay in your lane.

This is really a strange reply. Those 90% senior citizens are volunteers! I don't care if you don't shop at walmart. When you reply in 2023 maybe you can PM me.

I voted "absentee" even though here in Colorado, we've had mail-in voting since 2013, and it has worked very well for EVERYONE, regardless of political party.

Hint: if the Federal government wants to adopt a system that really works, and doesn't piss everybody off, then they should come to Colorado and study OUR system. Nobody among either Democrats or Republicans complains about our voting system at all....

We get mailed our ballots, and then we can either mail them back in after filling them out, or, we can simply drop them in any of dozens of armored 'drop-boxes' all over our towns and cities, and pay no postage to mail them back in at all!

With all our other problems, why are we having to 'wrangle' over something like this? And if people are discovered committing voting fraud at the federal level, SEND THEM TO A PENITENTIARY FOR TEN YEARS (ZERO-TOLERANCE). End of problem....

Thanks for sharing what is clearly working for your state. I hope somebody is paying attention and will figure out how you all got it right so they can implement it.

I just sent in my application for Vote by Mail. I've always voted at the booth so this will be a first for me.

I have no choice, I live in Colorado where the democrat party controls the votes, via vote harvesting, I always wonder how many fraudulent harvested votes cancel my vote out, is it 2 to 1 or 200 to 1. The state legislature here is House=Democrat, Senate=Democrat and Governor=Democrat, so ballot harvesting has no restrictions. Just watch as the results come in, Boulder county will be the last to report, they usually are, that is where the harvested ballots sit until the last minute.

We don't have a robust public key infrastructure that would be required for online voting. It could certainly be done in the future.

It's more difficult to get through the aisles and checkout at Walmart now. Their business volume is way up since the pandemic hit.

In general, it's more difficult to do anything now.

I believe ballots should be under the control of the election commission for the entire ballot life cycle, that is, delivered in by the printer to the final counting and stored until it is certain there were no irregularities.

What do you think that would look like?

Fortunately, our local WalMart has handled the task well. The major difference now is the store can only be at 50% capacity so there is a line to get in. It moves rather fast though. They will take returns on everything except food items.

I like the idea of one entity being in control over the entire process. Maybe that would help weed out most of the problems, ideally speaking.

In person, takes 20 minutes including drive time. We vote early , it's super easy and theres a great gyro place around the corner, the gyro takes longer.

    To the app question, no.
    Were not there yet.
    The current options are acceptable.

I plan to vote by mail. That's the way I've voted for many years.

In Florida we can request an absentee ballot, or vote early at the polls during a seven day stretch prior to election day, or on election day. We will vote early at the polls. In the past there have never been more than a small handful of voters voting early. While there may be more this year, we will risk it with masks, gloves and social distancing. Not a biggie. We are pretty healthy and active. So we have not much concern in that regard. Were either of us high risk or even unnaturally afraid, we'd simply vote absentee.

I plan to vote in person or not at all. I am willing to put on my an American flag mask and stand in the long line all day, or at least until the 3 or 5 people that are usually in line ahead of me to get through so I can take my turn at sticking it to the little guy.

I honestly don't know how those people stand in line for hours, but it seems to mostly happen in places that have very long ballots electing their dog catchers, deciding which of the 200 candidates they want, sorting through the 40 ballot initiative/constitutional amendments. I can usually be car door to car door in 10 minutes tops unless I happen to run into someone I know and have a chat.
