“TRUMP: "I'm not saying the military's in love w/ me. The soldiers are, the top people in the Pentagon probably aren't, because they want to do nothing but fight wars so all of those wonderful companies that make the bombs & make the planes & make everything else stay happy." - 9/7/20 Is Trump attempting to sell his populist theme in the military? The “drain the swamp” rhetoric, “elitist vs us” melodrama that worked so well for him in 2016? Interesting because he is the Commander in Chief, yet it appears here he is attempting to divide yet another vital institution for the country for his own personal political gain. Appears, it isn’t working “Trump’s popularity slips in latest Military Times poll — and more troops say they’ll vote for Biden“ https://www.militarytimes.com/news/p...ote-for-biden/ “Military Times Poll: Support For Trump Among Military, Veteran Community Declining“ https://kjzz.org/content/1616009/mil...nity-declining “Biden Leads Trump Among Active Duty Troops“ https://www.nationalreview.com/news/...e-duty-troops/
He just keeps digging a deeper hole doesn’t he? I trying to think of the last time I heard the military and veterans this angry. I remember during the Bush years when Georgie got the world embroiled in the never ending wars and he still maintained popularity with the troops Do not expect to see anyone come on the board though and say that they are not voting for Trump because of this. A few members have and do admit they were wrong about Trump, and I deeply respect those members but more commonly the ones that have been made uncomfortable will simply stop posting, the rest will continue to defend Trump but I am ignoring them and watching who is or has gone quiet
Trump cares for no one besides himself and Ivanka. Vets are no different. He thinks he is soon much smarter than them.
Yep, no one has ever done more for the military than Donald J. Trump! President Donald Trump recently announced he will divert $3.6 billion in congressionally approved military construction funds to pay for part of his border wall. Many of the 127 projects the president canceled would have improved the quality of life at work or home for military service members and their families. These include bases that military families call home. To them these installations are communities, each with their own schools, hospitals and grocery stores. Just as any of us would be outraged by crumbling classrooms, dilapidated clinics and decades-old facilities in our own neighborhoods, we should be even more incensed when the president condemns our service members and their families to such conditions. The military construction projects that the administration is stealing from to pay for an unnecessary wall might not get the recognition or attention of a fighter jet, tank or warship, but they directly impact our military readiness and the well-being for our military families. Investment on military construction and family housing has plummeted over the decade, and there are over a $116 billion maintenance backlog of projects. The Pentagon has already testified to Congress about how this cumulative underfunding has reached a crisis point. The Pentagon acknowledges that the facility should be “taken out of service” and that by not building a new center, service members will be forced to use more expensive, less convenient and lower quality off-base programs. Service members defending our nation should never have to worry about the safety and well-being of their children while they are serving the nation. Another example is in Southern California, where the president’s cancellation of the C-130J Flight Simulator facility for the Air National Guard Station at Channel Islands risks degrading the National Guard’s ability to combat California wildfires. The new flight simulator would have enabled service members to conduct emergency procedure training at the air station itself, reducing costs and allowing for training repetitions to better prepare for the next wildfire. These projects are a small sample of the overall challenges facing our military infrastructure. The president is also canceling dozens of essential projects that would affect hurricane recovery in Puerto Rico, weaken our ability to combat Russian aggression in Europe, counter North Korea and protect our national security interests. https://www.usatoday.com/story/opin...ecurity-families-foot-bill-column/2325586001/
Sounds like he is speaking out against the Military Industrial Complex....much like Ike did. Trump is a lot like Ike in warning us against it
Sure the ones that promote the Military Industrial Complex....what Ike warned us about. Not every top brass is the problem though. The revolving door between top brass and the Military Industrial Complex is an issue...pushing endless wars to get massive dollars to defense contractors is a problem. Trump is against that, Ike was too. So, I assume you support it....odd
Trump is the commander in chief. If he thinks there are people in the military it is his job to do something about it. Remove them. Not complain about it like he has no power. He’s pathetic. I genuinely do not see how anyone could admire him.
Should Ike of done that too? They were both warning in general about the Military Industrial Complex...and he has done a lot to address the issue by winding down the endless wars from the prior admins...some my disagree with that...obviously you don't like it...but the men and women risking their lives certainly do, and so do their familes. Obviuosly, if Biden is elected, the warmongerer...we will likely see an increse in global conflicts...and if history also proves true, Biden will cut funding to those folks....putting them at risk, while cutting their funds....sad
So on the one hand Trump is great for increasing the military budget but on the other hand he is great for complaining about military brass who want a bigger budget? WTF???
He is great for increasing the budget..... and making sure we are safe and our troops have what they need Giving raises to soldiers is a good reason to raises the budget...Trump did that https://www.militarytimes.com/news/...es-effect-jan-1-check-out-the-complete-chart/ He was complaining not about Brass wanting a bigger budget....he wasn't complainging at all...he was answering a question and said there maybe some top Brass this dislike him because he is winding down endless wars that fund the military industiral complex.
Eh, back in the day when we were steamrolling people, I'd say probably. Now though? Not enough combat. Most of the military is are REMF's who will never see combat... Those people (non-combat units) were typically more moderate. Front line units, Trump will get 90%+. Everyone else though, probably more like 50-60%.
He likes the pageantry and he likes throwing funding their way, but he has no respect for, say, those who were captured.
I tend to agree with this. I forget there are a lot of young kids now who will never see combat duty.
You literally contradicted yourself in the same post : You say Trump is fighting the "military industrial complex", yet a democrat is "defunding the military". You cant make that crap up with a team of writers. They are both doing the VERY SAME THING ! Democrats have been trying to cut the budget for years, but the right has made it the 3rd rail of politics. Trump literally ran in 2016 on increased military spending. Your slamming Biden because he wants to "cut funding", yet you were curiously silent when Trump took DOD funds to revamp his wall. Now Trump says he wants to cut budgets, and you are supporting it, but Biden doing the very same thing is "putting them at risk" ? You cant have it both ways Sybil. FTR, I actually support Trump and his drive to stop the endless wars and to cut the defense budget, just like I do for Biden. But the right is putting their hypocrisy on high here in trying to have it both ways.
What feeds the MIC is the endless wars. Raising hte budget to give soldiers raises doens't. I have no problem with using defense budget funds to build a wall for defense. I have a problem with endless wars.....I have a problem with Biden that wants to send troops over seas for endless wars, while also cutting funding for them personally....and using funds to fund the MIC
So you would agree that if he is "winding down endless wars", the military budget can be reduced - significantly. Yes?
No necessarily....giving raises to our military personal...who haven't had one in a decade is important. Ensuring that our ships, tanks, weapons etc are up to date and ready, is very important. Part of the problem we had when Trump came into office was that the Obama/Biden regime did such drastic cuts, while also engaging in endless wars, leaving the military disarray. There certainly maybe I time in the next term to make some cuts
The military now is more National Guard-esque and less Navy Seal-esque. I signed up to blow **** up, but that was 15 years ago. Kids these days sign up for free college and a cool profile picture. Different generations. Recruits now, most of which who weren't alive during 9/11, are much more moderate... as in, not as hard-core Republican. Air wingers and mail clerks and cooks, even during my time, were probably Republicans. Now those same people would likely vote Democrat.
I know quite a few former military, all branches, mostly friendships formed as a civilian contract worker on several military programs. Even the ones who heavily favored Trump in 2016 are soured on him now and will be voting for Biden.
And I'd be willing to bet a large sum of money that if it came down to Ivanka or him, he'd choose himself. He really is that despicable.
