And political correctness is as orthodox as anything the Catholic Church professed during the medieval period and equally vapid!
Religion is just a narrative that people use to pass on historical and cultural knowledge. Religion is a story we tell our children to communicate inherited knowledge that isn't communicated genetically. Narratives are easier to remember, and more relatable than the actual thing you're trying to communicate. "You aren't born as a fully actualized human being" doesn't have the same punch as the story of Pinocchio, for example. While you might argue that Pinocchio isn't a religion, religions use that same strategy to communicate deeper messages. Over time, the true context of the story can be lost, but the best stories communicate essential truths that are timeless, like Pinocchio. Animals do the same thing, they just communicate through behavior. Wolves learn to hunt with their packs, dolphins learn how to defend against sharks, apes learn how to use tools to access termites all by watching the behavior of their social groups. And they can be just as tribal, if not more so, than we are. This cultural schism, its structure, is exactly the same as that of a religion. They believe they possess an essential truth that must be communicated, and they are communicating it in exactly the same way.
