Is this the right charge? This might be an inappropriate use of force. Did this happen only because of racism:

No, the dog is an equal opportunity biter, not a racist bone in his body.

Anyone else hear the officer constantly telling the dog to heel?

Who in their right mind nowadays would remain a police officer, much less become one?

This reminds me of the Civil Rights days, when Southern police would sic dogs on peaceful protesters. Very sad.

Yes. Without the order, the K9 would not have attacked.

Was the dog a German Shepherd? Hate to waste a good Nazi calling opportunity.

No way to know if the officer would have had the dog attack had the kneeling man been white. The assault charge seems appropriate to me, but if I were his boss, I would be thinking that perhaps the K9 corps was not a good fit for this officer.

"good boy" is not a "heel" command!

Well. I'm not so sure of that :) I had a blue healer once that would go ape towards anyone wearing a cowboy hat, although a dude in a cowboy hat once shot him in the leg!

Then I had a yellow lab that would let ANYONE but a black person walk up to my work car and he was go totally Kujo on them!!

The latter is understandable the last is an enigma!

No reasonable comparison to be made.

Police brutality is a statistical anomaly.

We dont have peaceful protesters, we have rioters.

Any command can be anything you condition the dog to do when you say the word. The trainer determines what the dog will do from an audio or hand gesture command..

Dogs and other domesticated animals can be and often are trained so they are not "always" unpredictable and dangerous.

And you think that a dog would be trained to heel at the command "good boy"?

Any word on why he had an encounter with the cops? Oh, domestic dispute, that means he was beating his girlfriend who called the police on the guy. The cops were called to come to the seen and that's usually how these things work.

Dear ladies, store owners and home residents, if you're really afraid of seeing the guy who is raping, beating or robbing you getting harmed by the cops, then don't call them. Practice life without cops for a while and then see if you still want to defund them.

And did I read it correctly that now they suspended the use of dogs on suspects? So that just puts the cops in more danger from the people who have openly said they hated and wanted to see dead cops.

Were cops being ambushed and assassinated in Selma? They are today.

Why did the officer have to kick his leg to get him on the ground if he was being compliant? The dog apologized and was fined 50 Snausages!

If he was taught to, it would.. I know for a fact that the K9's here are conditioned to "SIGNAL" bark from just a facial expression from the officer doing a vehicle search ;) It's been instrumental in the arrest and seizure of a crap load of assorted cannabis products and generated a lot of money/fines for the county here :)

So the command "Good boy " can certainly be taught to be anything you would like the animal to do.

Dogs always have the potential to be unpredictable and dangerous, people that believe they aren't are the ones with dog bite scars :) And young children are the most vulnerable!

All animals, including humans, have the potential to be unpredictable and dangerous. I am a former LEO and my best friend runs a national dog rescue group. Domesticated dogs with police training are very well-trained. The only way to know if this specific animal is dangerous to the general public is to get the records of his history with his unit. At this point, there is no reason to believe his records show aggression without provocation.
