we got a bit of rain, tho' none forecast in the next ten days, and the triple digit heat cycle seems broken for this season. We have cold water in the cold water tap again!

We always seem to have periods of very good weather. Time too start looking into heating.

Screenshot_2020-09-18-20-45-23.png These are Appalachian Brook Crayfish.... I think. They are pretty good size for crayfish and the tails are wider. 20200822_151641.jpg The second is a Louisiana Swamp Crayfish. Notice the smaller tail. They also have smaller claws. The cooler weather should bring about breeding behavior. Time to get some babies. 20200918_124805.jpg

A long time friend and coworker of mine is a police captain who works in a city near the fires in Oregon. That friend helped patrol the area a day or two ago and took these pictures.

20200919_231127.jpg If you will look under her tail you can see the berries. I was fooling around in the shed after dark and noticed 2 tiny crawdads then I started pulling the big crawdads out and noticed her. She is in a 20 gallon by herself now. If everything goes alright she should have quite a few little ones. If that happens I will take her out and use the 20 gallon as a nursery. 20200919_231127.jpg

Can you imagine the terror the wild animals have when their habitat is destroyed not to mention the horror and devastation people feel when they lose everything?

For the longest time, I hadn't personally known of anyone having C0VID19 until recently. It is different when you actually know them. One of my relatives was sick, she has recovered her sense of smell and taste. This disease has such different symptoms none seem to be the same. Weird when you think about it.

The weather here has been rainy and a bit chilly, fall is letting us know it is knocking at the door. The best thing about the fall and winter here is the absolutely gorgeous sunsets.

We ain't had no rain since Sally. The "red zone" on the weather channel radar splits our location.... again. This cooler weather has given me a burst of energy.

I clubbed to death with my scrub brush, a small rodent that got in the house. No mouse trap or bait needed. Me, a 5' pole with a wooden scrubbrush at one end did the job. Old school.

The 2 freeloader cats that live the high life here, need to start earning their keep. You spoil them with Fancy Feast and this is what you get.

Interesting contraption you built there. Mice don't bother me, it's things with more than 4 legs or less than 2 than I'm not what I would call fond of. I'd likely try and catch it before the cat does with a big mixing bowl, slide a piece of cardboard under it, and tote it outside.

Hoover (aka Doublewide) handicapped with only three legs, is a good mouser. And squirreler. And birder. He just has the patience to quietly lay there, and suddenly move to kill.

It is amazing what handicapped animals can do. I would love to have a good squirrel catcher that can actually catch them. The squirrels aren't bothering the bird feeders since I put the electronic pest whatchamacallit on the back porch, it must work or the squirrels just got tired of raiding the bird feeders. For a while, I didn't see the squirrels and now that the pecan trees are dropping the pecans I see where they are eating the pecans and leaving the shells.

Squirrels? Only have a couple .. and I always wondered why that ran full speed across the yard until I saw a rabbit chasing one..
Wifey saw a strange animal at the back porch..her description was arched back, short tail, and ugly face, maybe slightly canine. We are very familiar with the usual wildlife, and nothing fits the bill, but did find a photo of a South American Tapir that did.. as we have also have something that roots around.. and not the plentiful javelina we have either. When the Kids where visiting.. both house reported something growling in the dark, so do wish I could catch a glimpse of the "beast". AND! saw old yellow dog

Step son.. last time he was living here, brought a er.. rescue dog from the city 90 miles away.. my first reaction was.. are you really going to spend time with this mutt? and next tho't was.. might be emotional prep for having a girlfriend.. Anyway, he calls me from his work and ask me to get the dog out of the pound.. $45 and an hour later I take the dog home and throw him in the fenced yard.. only to immediately find him running along side my PU . So we put him on a tethers.. come back a few hours later and he has managed to slice up his collar with a sparp edge somewhere and is running free again.. Soooo the kid (I call my 30 something stepson "the kid") puts dog ina full harness and tethers him back in th eyard.. well the tether held.. the dog had wrapped himself and a lawnchair up in it to the point he was completely immobile (big eyes looking at us seemed to say "hey man .. could you help me out here?" At this point we just turned him loose, no collar, no dog tag.. come what may. Now . some 7 years later , he is still roaming free.. you see, without the dog tag, there was noone to call to get him out of jail, and no one to charge for bail either.. so they wouldn't pick him up! LOL

Not all squirrels are nuisances some are nature's clowns and a pure delight to see like the fox squirrel. They are awesome to watch and we have some living in the woods nearby. The squirrels we have in our yard are a bit smaller than the fox squirrels and they are a pest.
