~ But gender does matter to Democrats when it comes to picking a vice president - so does skin color.
    Go figure .. . :confuse:´

We can thank Harry Reid for making that so. ;)

Democrats change rules for what benefits them "today" without considering that their own rules might backfire on them in the future.

And precisely what rationale do you expect Democrats will have for opposing a trump nominee, regardless of that person’s gender?

    Wrong AGAIN!

That was ALL the fault of McDonnell REFUSING to abide by longstanding Senate rules and protocols for his nefarious PARTISAN gain.

First, the public didn't take a look at her during her previous confirmation, unlike when someone is nominated for the SC.
Second, I believe that she wrote a paper about a catholic having to recuse themselves from death penalty cases when their religious belief is against the death penalty. That seems a reasonable position to me. Apparently, she was attacked on this by Dem Senators, likely because they didn't find anything else on her.
Third, several Dem Senators voted to confirm her. Not sure why they would reverse their vote.

Overall, I think she'd be an okay candidate. I am not deeply invested in Roe vs. Wade, so for me that's not a big issue, but the pro or anti-abortion crowd may get excited. My feeling is that she is not an extremist like Alito, I think she could rather end up like Roberts. Are the GOP hardliners willing to take that risk for possibly 30+ years?

The nuclear option was invoked by Reid for Federal Judicial appointments. McConnell applied it to the Supreme Court but Reid was the one to eliminate the filibuster.

I can't answer your question, as I am not a "GOP hardliner". Seems like the extreme partisans are happy with any person on Trump's list of nominees though. Trump is not a GOP hardliner either, so I wouldn't necessarily count on him to prioritize anything other than a nominee who has an originalist interpretation of the Constitution.

Coney-Barrett can be vetted by the public today. There are plenty of videos of her interviews, speaking jobs, and the Senate questioning for her judicial appointment.

I agree with your other points. She'll be a fine and fair justice. I don't see her as a hard line partisan.

We also have "the Biden rule"....

As noted, Democrats flex the rules when it's to their benefit "today", but like their own rules when their rules benefit the right side of the aisle.

    This just in!

Supreme Court Justice Stacey Abrams has just announced that she has graciously accepted her appointment to the SCOTUS.

I think you underestimate the desire of your party for an extremist judge. I made the suggestion yesterday for Trump to show some goodwill and nominate a moderate, in order to defuse arguments about him almost being a sitting duck. That suggestion wasn't receive well by forum Trump supporters. Their attitude: Nominate and confirm now, and shove someone in their (the Dems) face. Says it all about the state of division in the US at the moment.

The Democrat's Kavanaugh debacle was utterly shameful.

The Democrats earned themselves cause for ZERO goodwill after that despicable stunt.

No. Before Donald Trump was erected into the White House, the Republicans were kinder and gentler. Trump has shown the way to deal with Democrats.

You aren't paying attention. GOPers do. not. care. The only thing that moves their needle is that who ever trump nominates gets confirmed. They have long ago lost the ability to think for themselves.

Wrong again - Trump has shown the proper way to deal with Democrats, and the grateful GOPers are doing just that.

McConnell was the primary CAUSE of all of those changes because of his NEFARIOUS recalcitrance to abide by longstanding Senate Rules and Protocols.
