In Joe's defense, he wasn't lying, his brain is just a doorstop.

American has really outdone itself this time
A faltering dementia patient vs failed reality TV star / con man

    :applause:

I would say y’all should be embarrassed — but it is a perfect representation

He obviously meant 200,000. It's a gaffe that any of us could make, and I'm sure many do. I can't believe how desperate this is. Everybody knows it's 200,000 including Biden.

Million and thousand sound completely different and he said million. My guess is he misread the teleprompter the left says he doesn't use.

Of course he misread the teleprompter, and that's assuming the teleprompter was correct, and that it wasn't written numerically.

This is nothing unusual. In my industry we deal with "thousands," "hundreds of thousands" and "millions" all the time. I've mistakenly said one when I meant the other and so have most people I work with. Just a minor human error. I heard the speech. I noticed what he said. I have to think that virtually everyone who was interested in the speech is aware of the total being 200,000, and they, like I, realized this as a simple gaffe immediately. Could there be some people who are ignorant of the totals and took him literally? Sure, but I hardly think it's an issue.

Once in a while is normal. It is getting to the point that you wonder whether he can complete any sentence without losing track of where he is or where he is going.

I make mistakes, you make mistakes, we all make mistakes. But for the relatively few times Biden speaks, he makes a lot of mistakes which is pretty bad considering how much time he has to prepare to speak. And while we all make mistakes, there's a few people on this board who constantly say a president needs to live up to a higher standard, which means Biden should make less mistakes than us, not more.

Reminds me of the time they fed lines into Ton Burgandy's teleprompter.

Well that does it. I was 100% voting for Trump, but now that Joe has pointed out that over half the people in America have died today, I am considering voting for Biden.

Well, I don't see that at all. If you're not watching all his speeches - I get to see most of them - and you're just learning of these gaffes when they come up, you might have a skewed view. Biden misspeaks. He doesn't do it often, as you suggest. His age plays a big part in this, no doubt. I know it does with me. I used to be much quicker to turn a phrase, but I'm old and tired. Aching, too. I'm sure Biden is, as well. Doesn't mean we're losing our minds.

He rarely speaks for any time off the cuff without screwing up.
Just because it is expected from older people does not mean that is what we should have in a president.

He's 77, but appears to be in better shape than me, 14 years younger. Yes, a 77 year old is more tired than a 50 year old. It's the aging process. Old and tired, not mentally unfit.

That's the opposite of the truth. He rarely screws up. You're apparently watching different press conferences than I am.

You can expect anything you want from a president. I'm just giving my opinion as to an explanation.

It's a big show. Someone's public speaking skills tell us nothing about how he works behind the curtains. I'm willing to overlook Biden's gaffes. Gaffe free would be nice, but it's kinda homey. Just like GW.

I watched the Biden/Sanders debate. No sign of anything outside of a slight Biden win. If you haven't seen it, you should. That is the Joe Biden coming to the debates.

Behind the scenes, Biden has done virtually nothing in his forty seven years in government.

Do you say the same thing about Trump? I have confused 100,000 and 1,000,000, but I've never been confused by the word "Yosemite."

How about that, you and I are the same age. :) In 2001 I had emergency heart surgery and haven't been the same since, I get tired easy and some things I just no longer care about. But I still managed to walk an hour a day, every day, since December 16, 2002 - I'm at 17.7 years and still going. With that said, Trump would run circles around me, I have no idea where he gets his energy and enthusiasm from. I don't know how Biden's surgeries impacted him, they could be a concern, or maybe not. I think his best days are behind him. What the DNC should have done with him is use him as an influence guy, like when a congressman might vote against party lines, they send him in to talk some sense into him/her.

Going back to 2012, I've frequently said that, of all the presidential candidates and VPs, Biden is the guy I'd like to go bar hoping with. I feel with him what you see is what you get. That is not the case with Harris or Clinton. And as of now, you can add Trump to the list of people I wouldn't mind spending time with.

Regarding Biden's memory and speaking issues, every day, 5 days a week, I host 3 fifteen minute conference calls stating at 7:15am. I don't make the amount of mistakes Biden makes, and when I do make one I immediately catch it. I also don't use detailed notes, instead I'll write down individual words to remind me about what topics I have to speak about. I might write down 'budget,' and then I can take it from there. On the flip side, there are times when I have a thought in my head and 30 seconds later, or ever sooner, I can't remember what it was. But ask me something about what happened 20 years ago and I can recall every detail. It sucks getting old.

Turned 63 yesterday. I've felt more pain and fatigue in the last three years than the previous 30.
Good for you. I wish you many more. I get plenty of exercise at work. Too much. Twelve-hour shifts. Sucks, but I am proud of the fact I can still work like this.
Biden was perfectly happy as a retired vice-president. His reasons for running are personal, not ambitious.

I think the voters made the right choice. Biden is Teflon. The attempt to paint him as a radical leftist has failed. Sanders would have been pummeled as a bonafide communist, and it would have stuck. Same thing on a lesser scale with with Warren. Bloomberg actually was leading in a few places, but his Super Tuesday bid failed. I think Bloomberg would have been a formidable candidate, and many of them may have beaten Trump, but the way it looks, with the polls trending flat, Biden was probably the best candidate to beat Trump. Trump certainly thought so, and on this, I agree with him.

Yes, I experience much the same. Imagine how we're going to feel in our 70s.
