Well we know how they feel about the first two amendments. They've absolutely made a mockery of the first amendment. Freedom of speech should only apply to them. And good god look at how covid has made them go after freedom of assembly (unless your rioting/protesting).

Dems are mad because the days of the left using the courts to make laws they couldn't get passed are over.

But then you will cry when they expand the judges to 11 or 13

If the Democrats controlled the Senate, they would install a new Liberal judge and Democrats would be defending their decision and you would be DEFENDING it. So that makes you a hypocrite. So I guess you’re saying, if Democrats do it, it’s A OK, but if Republicans do it, it’s evil. THAT is hypocrisy...

What would be the reasoning behind that move?

Progs hate the Constitution because it was written with tyrants and totalitarians like them in mind, and naturally they would have the biggest problem with the first two because it deprives them of the ability to crush dissent.

It was nice to see Romney 'man-up' a bit. Hopefully Collins and Murkowski will 'man-up' a bit also, so we can make this a slam-dunk confirmation process.

Exactly. Whatever the Republicans did in 2016 and 2020, the Democrats would have done the exact same thing if the shoe had been on their foot.

Crying or laughing, happy or sad, smirking or grimacing, it all churns in a big cycle, Democrat, Republican, or Independent.

I don't know about all dems, but the ones I know about are complaining because this represents a complete reversal of the position Mitch took in 2016. I have said that dems would have no right to complain had Garland gotten a hearing in 2016. If Garland got a hearing, I wouldn't find it even slightly controversial for Trump to pick the next Supreme Court justice, even if RBG had died after the November election and Trump was a lame duck on his way out. But it is highly controversial from my perspective because it represents a complete reversal of Mitch's 2016 position.

Biden did not say they couldn't act now, just that they shouldn't. It does not contradict what he said four years ago.

Schumer also did not say they couldn't do it legally, he was just using hyperbole to point out their hypocrisy in doing so.

Sorry, epic fail. Hypocrisy is defined as saying one thing and professing to believe it, then doing the opposite when the opportunity presents itself.

    Try again?

Which is exactly what McConnell and other Senate Republicans are doing. Thank you for reinforcing my point.

When the White House and Senate majority are the same party the nominee goes forward. How many times does that need to be explained?

So dems need to stop stomping their feet, pitching a fit and just suck it up.

    Enough with the hysterics.

LoL I don't even know what your point is. The President is entitled (by the Constitution, no less) to nominate SCOTUS, with no conditions attached, and the Senate is entitled to vote on this nomination.

That is all there is to it. And yes, this is exactly what the Senate is doing.

What is your point, by the way?

There's no need. I'm comfortable that I've adequately demonstrated my point to anyone that isn't a wholly partisan hack, and aside from that, we've already got the votes. All the dems complaining now is just "sound and fury, signifying nothing."

2,868,676 more votes were cast for Democrats in 2016 and 17,537,638 more votes were cast for democrats in the senate in 2018 yet repubs choose the president and majority senate.

Maybe elections have consequences, but fairness has nothing to do with it.

Yes, we don't expect Trump to do anything less, but this argument isn't about Trump, its about what the Senate said during Garland

"I want you to use my words against me: if there's a republic president in 2016 and a vacancy in the last year of the 1st term, you can say Lindsay Graham says 'you can let the next president, whoever it might be, make that nomination, AND YOU CAN USE MY WORDS AGAINST ME' and you'd be absolutely right. We're setting a precedent here today, Republicans are, that in the last year – at least of a lame duck eight-year term ... that you're not gonna fill a vacant seat of the Supreme Court based on what we're doing here today. That's gonna be the new rule,"

    ---Sen. Lindsay Graham

And many Republican senators, Cruz, McConnel, et al, said the same thing or something similar. Not one of them mentioned anything about 'it's different when the president and the senate are of the same party'. The truth is SIMPLE: REPUBLICANS ARE EPIC HYPOCRITES. And now they are trying to repeal ACA, they are cruel, as well.

Your biblical reference doesn't wash. when the was on the other foot, when democrats could have nuked the SCOTUS filibuster and they didn't during Garland, we believed that an appointment to SCOTUS is so important that not one side should choose a SCOTUS judge without input from the other side, so when the shoe was on the other foot, it was 2/3 majority vote in the senate.

so, any argument that goes 'dems would have done it, too" is bullshit.
