    Betting on Lagoa.

Twitter is trying to rip Barrett to shreds today based on media hype that "She's the pick."

Twitter doesn't seem to find very much disparaging about Lagoa. All quiet. I bet she's the pick.

    From the same CNN article:

"Lagoa remains on the list but multiple people familiar with the matter told CNN that Trump is fading on the idea of picking her. While Trump was initially enthused at the prospect of nominating a Cuban-American from Florida, a critical electoral battleground, Lagoa hasn't been previously vetted for the Supreme Court and some advisers suggested it would be a heavy lift to clear a new name quickly."

I don't think vetting by twitter is what these people have in mind.

You see, since these are lifetime appointments, they want someone who doesn't flip on the conservative agenda. That's why someone totally unknown will have less chance.

I think it will be her too....she is certainly has the resume for the job. I believe Judge Lagoa is just too young at her age, but will potentially be a great replacement for Thomas or likely Breyer next term.

I know the left has taken up the anti-Catholic banner lately, and did with her too when she was nominated and overwhelming confirmed to the Circuit......but I would be very careful if I was on the left about showing their bigotry against the Church in that big of a stage. Will it happen? Likely...they just can't help themselves.

Lagoa is 52. Barrett is 48. They are both Catholic. Lagoa has over a decade of court experience as a judge.

For some reason I was thinking she was only 38....must of picked up the misinformation when I was watching Morning Joe....sorry

Either would be a great pick then at this point...and both but the Dems in quite a pickle Either way glad the President has such a stacked bench to replace Beyer or Thomas next term.

Trump is meeting with Lagoa on Friday. Vetting isn't that long or involved a process, though it may be scramble to accomplish in less than one week.

    Announcement Saturday.

Republicans don't know Lagoa's stance on pro-life or pro-choice from what I've read, and Senator Josh Hawley said he won't vote for anyone who is not pro-life. I'm not certain that overturning Roe v Wade or just leaving it sit as "settled law" is on the top of most voters' lists, but I could be wrong.

The left seems to think that Barrett will overturn legal abortions. I don't think she is actually that dogmatic, but if Lagoa comes across as a little more moderate on that issue, she'll pull in more Independent votes for Trump at the election.

Overall, both women are spoken of as being similar in judicial philosophy to Antonin Scalia.

I'm happy with either, but think Lagoa offers more political advantage for Trump's reelection, whereas Barrett is already divisive among voters.

    1) Not sure, but shouldn't be the test...I don't care if you are pro-life or pro-choice...just follow the law. The issue with abortion is that it's not ever going to be a settle law....as we have seen from Roe to Casey...science can change, and the State can have an eariler interest in the unborn. It went from trimester to viabilty which is well in the second now
    2) She is on record of saying the right to abortion is settled law.
    3) which is something I am fine with....he was a great legal mind

I agree that shouldn't be the test, but the left is going after Coney Barrett hard on just that issue. That could scare potential swing voters away from Trump.

They are going hard on her for being a Catholic, and I agree that should scare a lot of voters...and frankly Americans...

she has already came out and said abortion is settled law...it will not be illegal by anything she does.

Again, either one is fine with me

They are going after her Catholicism, not just because she is Catholic, because she was part of some sort of additional charismatic Catholic group, "People of Praise", where the women have mentors called "handmaids". Newsweek claimed that the author of "The Handmaid's Tale" based the story on the religious extremes of the real-life People of Praise group. Of course, they had to print a correction that the story is not based on that particular group, but you know, the left remembers the worst spin story and does not notice corrections and retractions.

I don't think Democrats will do that with a more mainstream Catholic like Lagoa.

    Original Newsweek:

Small correction later place at the bottom of the article with an edited headline:

Is this the same genius who made a curvy woman figure at the same time he said it would be a woman? Pro tip: Women hate that.

    Biden is a Catholic...

Newsweek isn't left wing, in fact, they often reprint many conservative opinion pieces, moreso than CNN does.

And it's not her Catholicism being challenge, it's whether her political ideology will influence her rulings on key issues that many care about and in what way.

Oh and lastly, no American christian in this country is persecuted for their religion. Persecution isn't being told you don't get to push your religion on others. It's being actually persecuted for practicing yours. When your church building cost more than what most Americans will earn in their life time, you are NOT persecuted. I say this as a Catholic. Any persecution of my religion was over a while ago in this country and it was mild by international standards.

Wow, the nutjobs are really running the DNC these days....that's sad....didn't they also go after a Judge for being in the Knights of Columbus!? Geez.

I would say they likely will be easier on her because she's not white...but...who's to say....they have gone off the hinges the past week.

Yeah but Biden is on the Plantation so his religion doesn't matter...it's only when you leave the Plantation does the DNC get upset...you know the "you ain't black" mindset.

as far as her political ideology impacting...history has shown that's not true for Judges and Justices appointed by the GOP...unlike the Dems....

Sure American Christians have been...you all tried to force people to violate their faith to have a freakin' job

Thanks for making me watch 2 30 second commercials and a rerun of Trump's greatest hits. There was no had gestures in that video. Don't even take the time to watch your own #FakeNews? Thanks for wasting my time. Liberals will accept #FakeNews sight unseen. They just repeat a lie because they heard it the news and like good little sheepple repeat it over and over as if it's truth. When you get a chance to watch that video and realize that you are being lied to by the media, come talk to me again. I have a red pill for you.

Sounds like a "religious test" to me. You are right. This shameful behavior should not happen today. Particularly not with our elected national leaders in Congress.

~ Democrats will try to obstruct Trump's SC nomination as happened with Kavanaugh. They did impeachment and invitation to visit the U.S. during a pandemic travel ban. They are all about a chance to get even for the past. They don't care about people - only power .
    Sad ...

Thank you. I missed your post while on vacation for a few days....

In my post about her, I didn't want to make it seem that Lagoa is a candidate with substandard qualifications -- far from it! She's got a long-standing, fine record as a judge -- but, it would help her to get past all the waves of Democrat bug-eyed yelling and screaming to be female, and Cuban-American (Hispanic)!

Oh, no doubt the Democrats will make every effort they can to destroy her, just like they tried to assassinate Brett Kavanaugh when he was under consideration for a Justice seat on the Supreme Court -- but -- they're likely to get a less "traction" with both women and minorities with attacks on Judge Barbara Lagoa than they would on a female judge who is 'lily-WHITE'.... Besides, no Democrat I know of is clever and inventive enough to formulate a ruse accusing Lagoa of rape!

I like both his top candidates, Barrett & Lagoa, either one would be an excellent choice for the American people

Lagoa is a strategically better choice for several reasons. I'm reading now that Trump is meeting again with Coney-Barrett today at the White House, and can't get Lagoa scheduled for a first meeting until Friday. Decision is now set for 5pm Saturday. Sounds like Coney-Barrett may indeed be the favorite.

Coney-Barrett is the "liberal heads explode" pick who may cost Trump reelection.

Lagoa is the "make liberals question how Trump is a racist who hates immigrants" pick who would be a great judge and may help Trump win over new voters for a landslide.

I hope the stunning hypocrisy of the Republican party resonates with fair minded voters of both parties. These skunks must be gone.
