I blame the left as much as the right for the problem of gun violence these days. A few months ago I witnessed a protest in which people were holding up signs that said "Black Lives Matter" and "Defund the Police". If you defund the police more black lives will be lost. So why would you want to defund the police if black lives truly mattered to you? Of course, weak gun laws that criminals can easily circumvent need to be strengthened. You don't hear much about gun violence in Australia.
We all realize that the only violence that affects people is "gun violence". Just because they use knives more in Australia doesn't mean that violence has disappeared.
Don't hear much about gun violence in the US state where I live either and there is over 50% gun ownership here.

Even if guns are not being used in many crimes where you live they could still cause a lot of problems in other locations. I don't compare the gun suicide rate, or any other rates in my state, with Australia as it seems completely irrelevant. I don't have the stats on gun trafficking into or out of my state but I believe gun trafficking is illegal. If people are involved in gun trafficking they should be arrested for the crime and if found guilty they should be locked up.
Why isn't gun suicide relevant? The lax gun laws supported by gun apologists make it easy for guns to be trafficked.
I didn't say gun suicide was irrelevant. I said to compare my state to Australia was irrelevant. Gun laws are not lax, enforcement of gun laws is lax. Because misery doesn't come from a gun. Suicide rates are higher where guns are illegal. Human nature is to choose the path of least resistance. If someone is going to commit suicide, a gun is the quickest way. The same way blaming guns for suicide/murder is the path of least resistance. Addressing the real issue is too complicated for most people, so they attack the rights of good people. Notice there are no anti-gun protests where most of the murder happens?

On Thursday, Dec. 10, at around 3:30 p.m., a Clewiston police officer conducted a traffic stop along East Obispo Avenue. The officer was in a marked, city-issued patrol vehicle when he was reportedly ambushed by an individual armed with a knife. The assailant approached the patrol vehicle from behind. “ The unidentified individual attempted to stab the officer multiple times while the officer was seated in the officer’s patrol vehicle. During the assault the armed individual verbalized a desire to die,” stated a press release from Clewiston Chief of Police Aaron Angell. “ The officer acted swiftly and tactically, defending himself from an armed assailant’s knife and was able to fend off the attack. “During the course of the struggle the officer made multiple attempts to call for assistance but was unsuccessful due to failed radio transmissions from the issued hand-held radio. The officer was able to reach the in car radio to request additional units,” the press release stated. “Despite deadly force conditions the officer was able to subdue the armed assailant without injury. Due to the officer’s reactive and tactical response, both officer and the armed assailant were unharmed. Why would you say that the gun violence between Blacks is caused by Whites? IMO the cause of someone being shot is the shooter rather than the origin of the gun.
Psychologically it is very hard to kill someone with a knife. In UK, homicide rate is much much lower since guns are banned.
