You don't seem to understand that YOUR health is MY business when I stand beside you at the vegetable chiller at the grocery store. I don't want untreated contagious diseased people freely and "secretly" wandering around us and spreading their disease. Constitutional freedoms DEMAND we address this risk, and charity is a hit-and-miss function suitable for children's Christmas presents.

Some things need government to provide effective management, and health is one of those things. You haven't thought this through.

HIPPA had lots of holes that the greedy insurance companies took advantage of, to save money by denying you coverage.

 

We had a large non mandated participation that enjoyed reasonable premiums and manageable deductibles. The subterfuge of twenty million uninsured was inflated and disingenuous. That number was pulled out of their air to give the Democrats a blank check to include illegal aliens in the ACA. The unprecedented surge of illegals choking America's ERs was a liability for the Democrat party. The ACA was a convenient way to reduce the visibility of illegals. In their cynical quest to create more Democrat voters and a super majority, the Democrats have trampled on the rights of American citizens to accommodate this shadow population. The masses that show up at our borders from the most far flung places come here not because of some faint imagined fairytale but because years of infiltration, porous borders and Democrat representation. It is no coincidence that the states with the most illegals and illegals receiving public assistance, are blue states. California hosts one in three of every illegal in the US.

 

HIPPA is still the law bud....Obamacare didn't overrule it.

HIPPA has worked wonderfully...hence why it's not in danger of being ruled illegal, like Obama and the Dem's law

 

HIPPA worked soooo well that the ACA had to fill in the massive holes, so that nobody would be denied coverage if they had a pre-existing condition.

First of all before the ACA insurance was cheaper and better, that's a demonstrable fact. The ACA has made healthcare not just more expensive but beyond the means of many it purported to help, without the crush of the mandate many people have dropped out because of the prohibitive costs. Your father would have been no better off with the ACA because pre-existing conditions are subject to rationing on a case by case basis where age and overall health are a determining factor. The pre-existing condition inclusion was a marketing ploy and in reality subject to the whim of healthcare administrators. There were lots of goodies like this buried in the bill and eventual law that the Democrats didn't want anybody to read.

It wasn't a program it was the free market, it was when the US had the indisputable best healthcare on the planet in both quality and cost. Now it's worse than Canada's and the UK's and will get much worse if we don't toss the ACA and get healthcare back in the market. We need to get and keep the government out of our healthcare.

 

I think you'll find many millions of Americans would disagree with you on the cost of healthcare prior to Obama. It was the reason it became a massive initiative. Do I think the ACA was perfect in his roll out? Nope. But it was a start. A start to provide every American with healthcare coverage. If that wasn't a problem - as you've suggested - if all Americans had affordable and good quality health coverage, why was the ACA introduced? I know you'll likely say that it was the opportunity for govt to get more control over the population, but the reality is that there was a desperate need for affordable coverage.
