A neighbor of mine has a 35 year old barely functional autistic son living with him who just received his mail in ballot. My neighbor is openly bragging how he gets to vote twice against Trump. Nuff said.

The right to vote twice? The autistic son can't even tie his shoe much less vote so dad votes for him. Dad votes twice.

If he is a US citizen with a condition not severe enough to be disqualified under the ADA then he is legally allowed to vote. If we don't believe that should be the case then we need to push to change the law.

Unless a court has officially declared the afflicted to be mentally incompetent to vote, then he/she has a constitutional right to vote.

The law should be changed before mail in voting is allowed not after the horse is already out of the barn.

Registering to vote online is far too easy and in this case the dad registered his autistic kid and will vote for him. This is just plain wrong.

In all honesty there are many things/people on the ballot that I don't know about and have to research so I can make an informed decision. That being said, I do not think my right to vote should hinge on anything other than my ability to hold a crayon - assuming I have not been convicted of a felony and can produce an ID. Many people are just voting how they are told/taught to anyway.

But it appears the father is voting for the son....that's a crime. Why are you supporting crimes here?

Some states permit the legal guardian to vote for the mentally impaired.

I agree, if someone is genuinely unable to comprehend what they are voting for or against then they should not legally be allowed to cast a ballot. Different states have different rules regarding this issue. But the proper way to handle this is to push for changes in the law.

Of course this all assumes the OP is telling the exact truth and not exaggerating any of his story.

Who decides if this kids capable of voting? Do we start another bureaucracy and hire psychologists and doctors to personally visit and assess every voter?
If this autistic kid had to show up somewhere to vote he'd just stand there staring at the floor and obviously would not be capable of voting.

What state do you live in, you can look it up online to find out if a legal guardian can vote for a mentally impaired household member in your state.

If he can it’s bad law
I know you can’t go to vote and say I’m voting twice, once for me and once for my retarded son. Why would mail in voting be different ?

The ADA covers this. As far as I understand it you pretty much have to have a doctor declare you mentally incapable of understanding what it means to vote in order to be legally barred from voting under the ADA. Each state seems to have it's own laws regarding this.

    In other words it’s extremely
A good reason every voter should have to show up and vote in person

Even if he were to show up in person he is still legally allowed to vote unless declared incapable by a doctor. I'm pretty sure he is even allowed to have a chaperone or caregiver bring him there and assist him in voting if required.

I get it, the law is dumb, if someone is genuinely incapable of understanding what they are doing then they shouldn't be allowed to vote. But the proper way to go about changing this is pushing to change the laws in your particular state.

How many of our combat veterans return home with major mental and psychological problems, would you deny them all their right to vote//
