"More than 700 economists, including seven Nobel Prize winners, are urgently warning against the reelection of President Donald Trump, citing what they describe as a "sustained assault" on democracy, a fumbled response to the pandemic and the spread of "dangerous misinformation."
"In just one term in office, Donald Trump has rendered the United States unrecognizable, and has faced no consequences for doing so," the economists wrote in an open letter, which is being updated until the November 3 election.

"For these reasons, we strongly recommend that the electorate do what no one else can: reclaim your democracy by voting to remove Donald Trump from office"
    https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/22/economy/economists-oppose-trump-election/index.html

Yet another army of of professionals joining the chorus of so many other armies of professionals that realise Trump is the number one threat to the country.

Definitely a DUMP TRUMP election not an elect Biden one. If the Dems had a good slate it would be a total landslide.

A chimp with a Sharpie outperformed all 700 "economists". Ask these economists why companies are leaving California?

    Funny, Trump knows better than:
    -Economists
    -Infectious disease specialists
    -Medical doctors in general
    -Generals
    -Climate scientists

He must be some sort of genius. Better add your nominations to the many he already has for the Nobel prize.

Everyone on your list gets is wrong on a regular bases, including Trump. Trusting any of them would make one gullible.

Trump got Covid wrong, but his rose-colored view was still closer to the truth than the "experts" Otherwise, republicans would have a much higher rate of infection.

Generals would love him if he sent them to war.

What do climate scientists think of sending manufacturing to heavy polluting countries? Do they think the pollution stays there?

We can agree on Trump, but don't pretend the other side is any better.

I'm neither an economist nor an enthusiastic Capitalist, but on this one, I'm in complete agreement. :democrat:

All the other sides are tons better, and I doubt you regard Trump as the gift from Hell that he is.

Economists get it wrong on a regular basis. Do you know why companies are leaving CA? If you are going to make cheap insult attempts, at least make them witty.

I live in Los Angeles. Trump may be a gift from hell, but is still a gift compared to Democrat super majority control.

I can't really blame them. For the past 4 years, Trump has been drowning the country in debt. No fiscal responsibility. He wants to bankrupy this country like he bankrupted his companies.

What, specifically, did they get wrong here and why?

    Yes.

Why should a fake argument deserve anything more than a quip? These economists aren't defending CA. So why make this **** up?

Meanwhile, Trump has claimed our nation would be wealthier if we had simply cut off all trade. This is, by far, the most economically ignorant claim ever made by a modern president. Trump doesn't even understand the basics of how trade works. Anyone who has passed high school economics should be shouting him down.

President Trump might be willing to coopt aspects of the Andrew Yang platform...... after he begins his next term but he was too busy fighting false charges and attempts at impeachment to get into that in these last four years.

It would have to be another team to put that in front of President Trump though.

Should Tulsi Gabbard and Andrew Yang begin a whole new party?

    Alternate thread title:

    700 leftists don't like Trump.

If they had used their expertise to disparage Trump on the economy, that would be one thing, but to use their economics expertise on democracy, pandemics, and misinformation is just more partisan spew.

    Next....

"Our trade deficit ballooned to $817 billion. Think of that. We lost $817 billion a year over the last number of years in trade. In other words, if we didn't trade, we'd save a hell of a lot of money."

Just like how he doesn't understand how tariffs work, he doesn't understand how trade deficits work. No, it doesn't mean we are losing money or that we'd be richer if we didn't trade.

Lol, no. Most of the arguments I've heard from economists have come from the economic right. Once upon a time there was more to the "right" than blind Trump worship.

No, that's not what that means. And I can only think of one economist who supports Trump's zero-sum, mercantilist nonsense, and he works for the White House. Hell, he was even challenged to name other economists who agree with him and couldn't do it.

Don't forget these economists are academics.

So this may not be all that surprising.

This could be more motivated by political & ideological reasons than actual economics.
And these days, mainstream beliefs about economics are as shaped by ideology as just about any other political belief.
Unfortunately it's not truly a "hard science".

So the economists on that list are Republicans? And they are all voting for the progressive/demo-socialist/antifa/blm party instead of conservative? Sure.

Economists in the US tend to lean that way, yes. Not Trumpism, but actual pro-market Republicanism.
Prepare to have your mind blown: did you know you can criticize Trump without voting for "rogressive/demo-socialist/antifa/blm party"?

    Also, Trump? Fiscally conservative? BWAHAHAHAHA!

We've had past threads arguing about this before.

Trump is likely going to win several Rust Belt states because of this "mercantilist nonsense" you refer to.
    So consider that.
