Remember that next time your state is hit by a natural disaster. Why should my state pay monies to bail out your state? In fact my state pays out more in federal taxes then federal help it receives.

What do you intend about taxes already withheld? Demand the government give it back so you can send it to the state?

Good thread... nice to see some left-leaning folks wanting federal taxes to be drastically lowered for poor people and rich people alike - some common ground with conservatives.

It also brings up the point that it is insane for a local entity to send massive amounts of money to some national entity, only to have to beg the national entity for some of that money back. Federal spending should be cut back drastically, and the states can tax and spend as they see fit. This would create some competition between the states concerning their tax policies, which would result in more sane taxing and programs. Utopian, high-tax, lots of free stuff states would attract many moochers and would repel the productive people. Low-tax states would do just the opposite. But with federal welfare programs, the competition gets buffered.

So are the liberals in this thread all onboard to cut federal welfare programs? And lower federal taxes? And let the states take care of the welfare programs themselves?

Send us a postcard from lockdown if you try that. Uncle Sugar gets his cut. That's how it works.

Jail works just fine. It's traditional. And selective. Hand the ringleaders a sweet 25-to-life and see how it goes.

Nevertheless he is right. The majority of what federal government does is not what it should be doing. A true national tax strike might actually motivate some reform.

I will remember it the rest of my life. It is an inappropriate role for federal government. Your state government, like the others, should never receive federal funds at all unless the federal government is buying something. It should be illegal for federal funds to go to the states. It is the source of most of the swamp's corruption.

There goes a key piece of Biden's platform, right down the toilet.
