This is the sort of thing that sure tends to make President Trump popular with USA soldiers and veterans. He would definitely get a higher calibre of information regarding the war in Afghanistan from the soldiers than he would get from the Generals and other officers. No wonder he got a nomination for a Nobel Peace Prize for how he handled diplomacy in the Middle East recently. I can believe this. Anyone with any knowledge could have known that Afghanistan was unwinnable. Time is on the side of the Afghans. The Russians learned this and pulled out. The Taliban will gain control of shortly after the last American leaves. This is a land locked wasteland in which we should have never involved ourselves. Good for Trump. If I'm wrong please correct me why we should stay.

I’ve never run across an EM who didn’t think he knew more than the generals. The same goes for non-vets whose, ahem, bone spurs precluded military service. You are all dismissed. Smoke ‘em if you’ve got ‘em.
