THey want the same legal protections that anyone else receives. Until the state gets out of marriage, ( which I think we all know that wont happen ) then of course they would want the same legal protections and benefits.

So a women who is known to be sterile for example, and not able to produce children, should not receive any government benefits correct? Because she cannot have children. She should not even be given a marriage license right?

Most evangelicals I know who don't support gay rights are the black baptist churches of the south. And who do they support again?

As i said, my opposition is based on money.
Your point is irrelevant because we should be looking into spending less on this necessity that the society benefits from instead of spending more.
As a taxpayer I don’t give a damn about your, or someone else’s happiness, government should have no role in that. These benefits were not created because all taxpayers want some couple (same sex or otherwise) to be paid for being happy. These benefits aren’t rewarding someone for living happily ever after, they are rewarding women who gave up their careers to tend for the children, who grow up to become next generation of taxpayers.

    What’s bogus?
You spend amount X on benefits for retired couples. You expand the pool of those eligible and you will spend more than X.

I thought you were able to do math?

Again we’re bringing up party affiliation? Why is it when someone brings up homophobia the right is quick to jump to the defense of their side?
    Strange if you ask me.

You see no value in the government incentivizing the creation of stable family units? Seems like we should want that.

Sure I get that. That’s the danger of government predicated on granting favors for votes.

I specifically used the term “disappointed” because I know the state entrapped the movement and I’m being critical of the state not the gay community.

I’m disappointed and saddened when any individual or demographic cedes autonomy to the state. From feudalism to government to organized crime, protection always comes at a high price.

What defense have I brought? I called out, specifically these folks, black baptist churches. How is this defending a side? I never experience homophobia from my interactions with the right. Including on this forum. Perhaps you should know your audience...

I think we are suppose to say something negative, I could be wrong though! But as far as I'm concerned, who am I to deprive anyone something or someone they love, I'm good with it! ¯\_(º¸º)_/¯

The legalization of gay marriage is possibly the worst thing to happen to America. It unleashed the madness. Silly normies thought that would wrap up the gay rights movements. How wrong they were. They went straight from that to allowing cross dressing men into girls bathrooms, putting cross dressing male rapists into women's prisons, having cross dressing men read stories to 5 year old kids, forcing transgender sex ed into the curriculum for grade schoolers, gender is fluid irrationality, etc...

If it comes down to allowing the outcasts to oppress me and mine while destroying the country or me and mine oppressing the outcasts, I will pick the role of oppressor every time. There is NO DOUBT whatsoever who the oppressors are today.

I think the real context here is for our lefty posters to get to hide behind their own homophobia and make others they assume are the same express it for them. I'm not having any of it.

    I'm all for gay marriage.

I'm really curious how they figure out who gets the house and kids.

    It hasn't.

I oppose marriage in general. I support two (or more) people pledging to unite themselves and celebrating that union before witnesses and God (should they so choose) in a wedding. Thats a beautiful thing, and fundamental to the nuclear family unit that built western civilization. But why bring the state into the relationship with a marriage contract? Screw that.

Good points. :) Conservatives & Trumpsters especially, fail to see the intricate connections & utter interdependence we all have on each other. That interdependence constantly increases as we become a more technological society. But conservatives continue seeing themselves & everyone else, as something distinct & separate. They fail to see how we are all impacted by events around us. It's like a wave in a lake or ocean, except that wave spreads thru our groups & communities, affecting everyone there in some way. The current pandemic is a good example. You may not have symptoms or test positive, but I guarantee you're affected in very noticeable ways. We need to become a lot more aware of these constant connections with others around us. Individualism is an illusion. In the modern world, we are all connected, whether we realize it or not, or whether we like it or not. How we behave, think or talk all affects others around us, & thru them, others we don't even know. Our thoughtlessness can & often does hurt others without our knowing it. Theirs hurt us too, in equal measure, even when we don't know who or how that hurt found us. Conservatives & Trumpsters believe in "every man for himself." But that philosophy doesn't function very well in any advanced society. Government is a tool that can be used to help keep communication & coordination working on a higher level to benefit society in many ways. Conservative & Trumpian hatred & mistrust of government closes that valuable tool down, making life harder for all of us. I hope this election demonstrates some awakening by voters on these complex truths.

    Indeed.

That's why the people who are most likely to call someone a ****** or a ****** is a leftist.

They really enjoy throwing around "race traitor" too.

That's a good one, but it requires a little thought to understand the irony.

I'm always suspicious of a thread where the creator post something controversial and neglects to add in their own OPINION
