America in some places has become the wild west, violent and lawless while the hand wringers and panty wearers stand by and watch. Well, there’s a new sheriff in town.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has drafted a new “anti-mob” legislation that will allow armed citizens to shoot suspected looters. Finally someone with stones enough to deal with crime and to protect American citizens. It being Florida I think this will gain a lot of support and become law setting a precedent for better federal laws.

The rioting mobs have operated without fear of law enforcement that has been hamstrung by sniveling leftist politicians. It’s become abundantly clear that this could escalate nationally and America will become a war zone. Citizens no longer feel safe and have lost confidence in the government to allow law enforcement to do it’s job.

The mob brings weapons and molotovs, all the government can offer business owners is plywood. This is something that should be the law of the land and apply to homeowners as well. Your thoughts?

I'm in favor of a Trump dynasty, it'll take a few more Trumps to destroy the swamp.

I think that is sound logic that should have applied to Minneapolis at the first riots. When you are in the process of intentionally violating other people's primary rights, you are "suspending" their rights by your own choice. I believe that a person involved in such an act has suspended their own as well during the commission of such a crime, and society has not only reason to take them down, but a duty. What it takes is up to the offender. If that person ignores police commands to halt and surrender and the crime is violent, then their ticket is cancelled, game over. That is justice, not injustice. The perp has made the rules, given the victims no rights and no choice- thus set himself up for whatever consequences happen to him.

IF this had been done in Minneapolis- it would have been the last riot, instead of the first. I'm hopeful that the proposed DeSantis legislation not only passes in Florida, but is adopted by other states who have had a belly-full of tolerating thugs and their violence.

It figures. In Florida it's legal to shoot a black guy so long as the shooter says they looked "threatening". Next obvious step was to make it legal to shoot protesters too if they "look" like rioters. Up next could be to make it legal to shoot tourists if they look like illegal immigrants.

Rick Scott for POTUS and Ron DeSantis for VP in 2024. Both have a proven record that can't be matched.

This is the same man who introduced a college bill of rights so students could party during covid outbreaks:

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Thursday he would seek a “bill of rights” for college students following crackdowns on parties and other social gatherings that some blame for a surge in COVID-19 cases on campuses around the country.

“I understand that universities are trying to do the right thing,” DeSantis said during a news briefing at the Capitol, “but I personally think it’s dramatically draconian that a student could get potentially expelled for going to a party. That’s what college kids do.”

We already live in a constant WAR ZONE in the USA, with over 100 shot and killed and at least 200 wounded everyday in the good old USA. In the 50 years from 1968 through 2017 we had more than a million and a half Americans shot and killed on their native soil. That is over 300,000 more than were killed in every war the USA has ever been involved in.

Off topic. Look up George Zimmerman. Or any of the many threads on this forum about "Stand your ground" laws.

Trayvon Martin's death is NOT unicorn dust. FL's Stand Your Ground law is an open invitation for racists to shoot and kill black men all because of what they "feel". Redneck racism is still rampant in FL. They breed in the swamps.

The guy might have a fair chance, if Trump doesn't run. He's kind of a Trump clone without some of the antagonistic nature that Trump has.

You misspelled "I hate those with different political opinions" and no, it's not legal to just shoot black people in Fl.

~ Matt Gaetz , Jim Jordan , Tom McClintock , Kevin McCarthy are a few doing the people's work on Capitol Hill. All would be good as President. I think Don Jr will run.

And DeSantis is doing his part to make sure at least Florida becomes the wild west. It's one thing to defend your life and property, it's quite another to murder people then claim they were suspected looters in order to get away with cold blooded murder. He is saying anyone with a gun can be judge, jury and especially executioner. There's your wild west for you.

This law won't be a blank check, in states where there are stand your ground laws and castle doctrine the laws are very specific about what justifies shooting anyone. It's really on the gun owner to be very sure about what they are doing before acting. At the sportsman's club that I belong to we have classes for people seeking to obtain an LTC. These instructors are certified by the state to teach gun safety. A question that comes up from time to time is what justifies a shooting. In a less formal training for all members is a class on what one should do if forced to protect themselves or their family. It's focus is on what the shooter should do to avoid going to jail. This happens more than you expect so the Florida law won't encourage free for alls. If your blood, sweat and tears were poured into building a business and it is threatened by some crazed POS who is in the act of trying to destroy your property, yeah, I think shooting is appropriate but you better have proof that your actions were justified. I think this ought to be the law of the land and while not specifically stated in the second amendment it is clearly the sentiment of that right, that one should be able to protect life and property. By the way, the members of a mob in the commission of violent acts forfeit their right to a judge and a jury in that moment but if they survive they're entitled to their day in court. I predict the riots of 2020 will give rise to more common sense laws regarding mob activities that will support citizens over politics.
