Trump was wishy washy, Trump wants congress to pass it, then he wants to criticize congress for passing it, this is what Trump always does

Trump has to be clear on what he supports and not go back and forth, that has always been Trump's problem

I'm not a fan of whiskey, but I have had alcohol around them.

Why? Are you going to say something dumb now?

Trump never waivered on his offer to spend $1.8T on covid relief. Pelosi wouldn't budge on her $2.2T offer. McConnell only wanted to spend $1T so the deal didn't get done. Clearly Trump was willing to compromise and seek the middle ground.

Trump never created a bill and Trump said go big or go home, Pelosi passed a bill that goes big, Republicans won't vote on it

the problem is Trump is not pushing it

I did not say that it would pass ? You are unable to support your position and so are spouting out inflammatory rhetoric .. .

Your claim that legislators should not try to pass bills they do not have full support for is nonsense - and you know it. There are many good reasons to try to get legislation passed that is not favored by the majority.

Sad that you can not think of any.

Sorry, I read where another poster enjoyed Jim Beam and mistook it for you. But since you mentioned having alcohol around your kids why is that any different than smoking marijuana around them?

Do presidents create bills? I know they can present their wishes to congress and congress creates the bill which then gets sent to the president to sign or veto. In this case Trump did present his wishes to congress publicly. I'm sure you hate Trump so I don't expect you and I to come to an agreement on this. I'll give you the last word.

Smart politicians choose the battles they are sure to win and right now is not a good time to introduce marijuana legislation. It's really a shame you don't understand that. Right now the priority is the virus as it should be. There will be plenty of time for a marijuana bill when Biden takes office.

they can, you seem to indicate Trump promoted a bill

Pelosi got a bill passed in the house, that meets Trump's goals, so let's pass it

What does any of the above have to do with your claim that there it is never a good idea to introduce legislation that does not have support.

and what about smart politicians choosing battles - do I not understand ?

This has become you making up stuff and attributing it to me every post - cause you can't support your claim.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) previously announced this summer that the chamber would vote on the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act in September, but that plan was postponed following pushback from certain centrist Democrats who worried about the optics of advancing cannabis reform before passing another coronavirus relief package.

You're takiking this out of context. My argument is if congress won't pass a covid-19 stimulus bill what makes any believe a bill to legalize weed would pass. Seems the House is going to vote on a bill in December that would decriminalize marijuana. We shall see what happens. Should congress be pushing a bill to decriminalize marijuana when so many Americans need monetary relief now!?

Yes - and about time .. - how this has anything to do with Obama eludes me .. but as I state in the OP - a move in the right direction.
Can't blame them for that political decision .. you do it first thing when you get elected.

In Obama's first 2 years as president he used his clout to push the ACA. Voters expected Obama to focus on the economy first and they showed their dissapointment by giving Republicans the majority in congress.

    From my post #219:

Obama used his political clout to push through the Affordable Care Act when Democrats controlled Congress. Americans wanted Obama to focus on the economy first so they could keep their jobs and health insurance provided by their employer. Obama chose to focus on the ACA instead which was most likely the reason the Democrats lost many seats in Congress to Republicans who were not going to entertain the idea of decriminalizing marijuana at the federal level. Biden might have a better chance at getting it changed.

I prefer tequila, and I can drink a margarita and not get drunk. I dont think that’s possible with pot.

bourbon, whiskey, and scotch just don’t do much for me from a flavor standpoint.

I also feel like I’m wasting good coke if I mix it.

Government is not limited to doing only one thing at a time and Covid stimulus is not marijuana decriminalization. As far as the House it has been in it's, the Dems, political interest to NOT pass a stimulus or relief bill for COVID but is for marijuana decriminalization.

the house already passed a stimulus bill, the Senate refuses to vote on it because they want to make Trump look bad

will they do the same for a marijuana decriminalization bill? take away Trump's chance to pass such a historic bill?

all one has to do is look at the poll at the top of this thread to see how massive the support for this is, find any other thread where both parties agree on something 50-1

Trump could leave office on a high note (lol, no pun intended)

do you want the Senate to deny Trump the opportunity to sign such a historic bill?

Sorry but I don't consider legalizing marijuana a historic moment. Even if the Democrats get it passed in the House in December, McConnell is going to laugh that bill right into the round file.

I take it you're the 1 in the 50-1 poll above

McConnell may very well deny Trump the opportunity to sign this historic bill into law - especially if Trump remains wishy washy on it

They kept upping their anty to make sure it would not pass the Senate and be sent to the President because they knew it was NOT in their best interest to work with the Republicans. I haven't heard Trump say one way or another but yes wait until a Democrat President could sign it so that Trump could not take credit.
