My auto fill and spell check substitute asymptotic for asymptomatic all the time.

Asymptotic is a good word though. It kind of describes our pursuit of knowledge on asymptomatic spread of influenza. We know it happens. Sometimes it happens a lot. But we can’t assign a specific value. H3N2 seems to spread more asymptomatically than other strains, but all seem to exhibit a lot of heterogeneity that we can’t account for in studies. So we keep getting closer to the answers, but we never seem to reach a full understanding intersection of reality and our knowledge of reality. Thus “asymptotic” is the perfect fit!

That’s what bothers me so much about Fauci who you brought up as well. He either doesn’t know epidemiology and virology (the specific things we are discussing here for example) or he doesn’t know how to apply it as a public health official to minimize deaths.

Masks may provide limited protection for the wearer, but N95 respirators offer significant protection.
