I heard that in California, the entertainment industry is allowed to continue to operate after being deemed "essential!" Uh, how exactly?

Simple, they reliably spout the "progressive" line.

Are all other industries completely shut down from operating? I hadn’t heard such a shutdown was recently implemented.

Basically they are shutting down all "non-essential" businesses. In real language, you can read this as all potential competitors of Amazon. This latest round should pretty much wipe out small business in California. But hey at least the essential propaganda work of the Hollywood exempt as are "peaceful protests". I suspect the "peaceful protests" may be outlawed when middle class Californians who are having their lives destroyed rise up.

According to your link it’s for the hours of 10pm till 5am. Lots of small businesses open during those hours? That being said, I don’t agree with any shutdown but let’s not try to make it seem like this is a full shutdown.

That can't be right. 10pm to 5am is like 1% of industries. In this case, the policy would have very simply read something along the lines of, every industry can remain operating apart from these select few which operate between the hours of 10pm to 5pm. Also, why would the entertainment industry need to be given an exemption when it surely doesn't even operate in those hours?

I live in Los Angeles. Lots of production has been suspended. Foreign location work is severely compromised because of travel restrictions. Workers are tested constantly. It's far from business as usual.

That said some work is getting done and it's pretty essential for the millions of people stuck at home who'd otherwise have nothing but re-runs to watch.

Is the work truly "essential" in absolute terms? No but I for one am grateful that the industry is limping along in some form as long as they are taking their best steps to curtail virus spread which it seems, from what I can gather, they are.

if people stay home and watch tv, they are less likely to spread the virus I suppose

entertainment is an escape in these trying times for many

It's essential to get people to stay home. God knows that if my Mandalorian didn't come out every Thursday, I'd be out on the streets rioting and looting.

Yes, but it's been deemed "essential" by the government. If they were being honest, they would have said that it was exempt because it has been deemed POWERFUL!

In coordination with direct aid to small business and it’s workers “lockdowns” when essential are fine.

The problem is the aid for small business will never get through the Senate without liability protection for big business.

The lack of a coordinated Federal response to the virus lends our Senators the power to lay waste to those constituencies.

States got to do what States got to do to protect public health (or not).

Only a cadre of freaking-profoundly freaking-morons could put this country in such an ugly position.

I believe the reasoning is mainly because the entertainment industry is essential to maintaining national morale.

do you know how many people would go crazy if they didn't have movies and TV shows to watch during the shutdown

So federalism should be allowed to operate or it shouldn't? You said, "States got to do what States got to do", so it doesn't exactly sound like you're against it, but then you seem to have a problem with it at the same time. I'm sure it's just because TRUMP like every Trump Derangement Syndrome sufferer! :roflol:
