Looking at people's careless behavior over Thanksgiving and on black Friday, things are going to get a whole lot worse. Driving by our local Denny's today, it was packed. Stores are packed. Party at Thanksgiving, bury a loved one or friend at Christmas. It is all SO predictable.

Most likely an old loved one. Oh well, in this troubled economy (caused by the shutdown), it will save a fortune on nursing home and hospice care.

What were the statistics? 95% of those that die would have only lived a few more years anyway, had they not caught that particular virus.
Median age of death is 71.

Wow, isn't this a sweet sentiment Thanksgiving!

The cluelessness of the "oh, well, older people over 71 or sick people or people with diabetes are gonna die soon anyway so it isn't a problem" is truely a Right Wing Christian disease!

What these people fail to understand is that this even the sickest and older of people still easily spend 5 years and more to be alive until death, which does spread out the funerals and the dying over some time.

With a Pandemic like COVID, the month or 2 of dring and death gets compressed to a few months, which severely depressed family members, medical personnel, and the last high profits of funeral expenses because the bulldoze-dug-ditches the USA is needing to handle the rush!

Add in the Republican-led plan of Trumps official medical sanction of "Natural Herd Immunity", and sanction of no masks anywhere which requires the quick death of anyone not in top health shape, this first while is going to be a truly memorable time!

Hospitals have been losing nurses for years and I'm not sure how much the pandemic changed that. They regularly get patient overloads, no breaks or lunch, impossible on-call treatment, and no respect from doctors. At one hospital in Illinois, nurses tell me they're on a point-based system whereby they accrue points for little mistakes, being a minute late to work (even when woken up out of a sleep to come into work between shifts), etc. At a certain point, they are eligible for termination. Also, the ones I know rarely get to take the leave they earned; they still get called to come into work on their vacation. If they refuse, more points added.

Problem is that hospital bosses don't treat their staff with dignity and so nursing is no-longer a fulfilling job. Nurses of 15+ years are quitting over things like this.

900 sadly, despite our best collaborative efforts. Wouldn't call it funny myself.

    How's your situation over there?

Ah, bringing up the anti-social "they were old and going to die anyway" attitude again. Newsflash, this attitude was soundly rejected by 80 million voters. Unfortunately, 73 million are still hanging on to it, some of them call themselves Christians. Well, they'll get their comeuppance come Christmas, and many of us too, who try to do the responsible thing.

The whole notion of flattening the curve was to give hospitals time to prepare. If they are no prepared after 6 months, there is nothing more that can be done.

If you want to see a meltdown, just turn it over to the government.

You seem confused. Or perhaps you just want to make a cheap semantic point

Government policy and honest and professional coordination with medical experts has Covid under control.

Because you have had corrupt, ineffective and incompetent leadership from the top the US covid response has been all over the place. The US death rate is 50 times ours

Currently, Australia has less than 100 community cases. The US has millions. Can you see the difference when government and the people work together in harmony?

Most countries have some sort of national health care. Even poor countries like Costa Rica. Most are happier with theirs than we are with ours.

Even poor countries like Costa Rica.

That's been true for a long time. The nursing shortage we had before Covid was mostly a retention problem.

This is worse, a lot worse.

Other countries aren't saddled with a federal government like ours.

And all the dead people are ACTORS. Yep, Alex and Q-Anon have it right. Nobody in America has died since Trump was elected. Trump has made us all immortal and the Democrat ingrates want all Americans to die

If all that many more people have died where are all the funerals? Our highways should be clogged with Hearses, where are they? Huh?

All the people being buried are a bunch of commie actor types trying to make the Dear Leader look bad. Trick coffins are selling at an all-time clip. Watch your children. Where we go one there we go off, right?

    You didn't actually say anything.

And, as I pointed out, you have nothing to say on the topic.

You said other countries 'don't have a government like ours'.

That doesn't make sense. Most of the countries in Europe are democracies with an industrial economy. In what *meaningful* way are they different?

That you have started repeating yourself tells us you have bupkus, and have resorted to trolling..

I doubt the European governments are as corrupt as ours. There is another troll for you.
