Juan Cole had an article on this this morning. Iran does not have nukes and her religious leaders say she must not have them as they are immoral. Others, for instance the Republican Guards want Iran to have nukes. Clearly they want her to have nukes because then nobody is going to nuke them and the possibiity of them being seriously attacked is severely limited.

Iran seems to have taken a position which other countries, for example Japan have taken and that is not to make nukes but to know how to produce nukes should they be seriously attacked. He believes both Iran and Japan have something inbetween being nuclear powers and having no nuclear protection. He calls it nuclear latency. This he believes makes anyone think twice against attacking Iran. Iran does have a well equiped military which focuses on defence. If a country tried to occupy her it is believed this would be very hard, likely going on for years even decades and cost that country an immense amount of deaths. However it is having the nuclear latency - the ability to build nukes very quickly, just a matter of weeks, which Cole believes puts Iran in a very different position to the one Iraq, with no nukes was in when attacked and hence much less likely to be attacked. In short the reason why Western countries do not attack countries until they have let go of the possibility of nuclear weapons is simply that they can kill without much comeback when that is the case, or cowardice if you like.

It is for this reason that the nuclear deal came into being.

Why the world is Safer if Biden can Reinstitute Iran Nuclear Deal (juancole.com)

Yes, I did hear someone from Iran saying this killing was an act of war. I found this 2017 article in the Guardian about how we have moved back on ideas on war created since before WW2 and the creation of the UN and now because countries are ignoring when it is legal to go to war we are moving back to what the situation was before which is might is right. I have indeed for about ten years now heard people supporting war on the basis of might is right. I don't know if that was always the case in the US but I know for most of my life the UK was very against war and did not support countries committing assassinations. I can remember people in the US also protesting the CIA assassinating people.

Making war illegal changed the world. But it’s becoming too easy to break the law | Law | The Guardian

The Iranian people know that all their economic problems are due to the nuclear program. The Iranian people think that the assassination of the scientist is a great reason to stop the regime's intention to develop atomic bombs.
90% of Iranians were happy about the assassination... and that 90% will Inshallah kick out the evil Ayatullas.

It is pretty clear that Israel cannot trust a feeble fool like biden to take a stand in the mid-east so I suspect Trump and Israel got together and got it done before peepads and kneepads were sworn-in.

Inadvertently, you keep making my point for me, but since you do not get whats the point is, let me splain.

You keep saying that since it is Israel (supposedly ) who attacked Iran, innocent Jews worldwide "be on the receiving end of the iranians retaliations". So, it is the Jews who are the root cause of Iranian troubles and not Israel. Israel is a natural target for Iran 'cos its full of Jews.

Presently, Iran has two main antagonist, Israel and the USA. Sadly, jews everywhere are identified with Israel, right or wrong. Americans on the other hand are quite varied and hard to identify or find abroad, unlike the jews who attend synagogue, shop at kosher markets... So sad that innocents have to pay for the acts of foreign agent.

You just have to admire Mossad, still doing things the OSS/SOE way, I wish MI6/CIA had the same policy.

And addition to your first point - I don't think Russia/China would stand by and just watch if the US started serious saber rattling against Iran. These nations have developed close ties ..and - well - Iran does border Russia via the Caspian Sea.

To the second point - one needs to forget it is Iran we are talking about and look at these actions objectively - and consider long term precedent that is being set .. and major violation of the Golden Rule :)

The message is quite clear if you do not want to have your top scientists murdered get nukes as quickly and secretly as you can, then the bullies leave you alone!

Must be open season on Jonathan Pollard!

You mean like the bombing of Saudi oil facilities? Oh, sorry that was done by Muslims.
Or maybe half a million deads in Syria, sorry again by Muslims.
Maybe the mounting death tolll in Yeman, oh this again was done by Muslims.
Wonder how in all those cases Iran is deeply involved.
    Makes you wonder...

So you claim that every Muslim child can be Murdered because of what ISIS has done ?
Or that the American should have murdered every Muslim on their land because of 9/11?
Sorry, blood revenge is only a custom of the most primitive of people. A little bit more than neanderthals.
Is this what you claim the Iranians are?

Iranian Monitor did not expect any help from them, especially Russia. Russia has allowed Israel to come in and kill Iranians at will in Syria. It did once kick up and say its own people could be killed as well and at that time offered Syria slightly better defences but he believes there is no reason to believe Russia would come to their aid. I am not sure at that time that China was thought of as being likely to help them. They have done more deals with Iran recently. I cannot remember what they are but I guess that may change things but I do not think Iran would rely on either.
I suspect that deciding that it was wrong to unneccesarily kill and harm civilians and that war was just legal for defence was very much a part of us becomming democracies. I think sometimes people do not realise what a short time that has been. At that time people were more than aware that they had to keep their eyes on their government or they might try to do things which they believed were not in their interests. At that time also I think people were much more aware that wars tend to be for economic gain and the ordinary people are sent as cannon fodder so that others can make that gain. Of course Governments became really good at pretending they were fighting for the good of people because I think that is one of the strongest things that democracy brought. People could feel for civilians in other countries and did not want them harmed any more than they wanted themselves harmed. There was also the belief that you did not interfere with what was going on in another country. That was up to the people of that country to sort out....and of course we also went through a process of understanding there were psychological reasons for why people acted in peculiar ways and the way to resolution was to find out what these were and work on them.

All of this ended on 9/11 or a little later in countries other than the US. I remember the first time I heard Blair speak of the other as 'evil'. I knew we were on a downward spiral immidiately. I do not remember ever hearing that said of an enemy before but after 9/11 the US was apparently the good guy and whoever the US did not like was 'evil' and the UK was right there with the US whatever she wanted to do.

We are well back into Might is Right and, and this is something people like to ignore, it has cost millions of lives and made millions more homeless but because it does not hit us here, expect through terrorism, we mostly do not even know our country is involved in wars.

You cannot deal with the fasts, so you move to personal insults.
500,000 dead in Syria murdered by Muslims. 10,000,000 refugees in Syria all by Muslims.
Countless dead in Yemen, all by Muslims.
Countless dead in Iraq, all by Muslims.

As long as Iran regime continues with its phantasy Nuclear plan involved generals will meet their maker for all the regime enemies to see how fragile and weak the regime really is.

I had a similar bad feeling about 911 - for some of the same reason's - and we have been moving fairly rapidly towards a quazi totalitarian police state ever since. Not of the kind of Stalin or Adolf - Mao or El Saud - this is a different form - not as easily recognized for what it is.

Because Iran is only "guilty" of acting as a check to Israeli regional hegemony (aka "Greater Israel") it has been unjustly painted as a "terrorist sponsor" by the West's Zionist dominated MSM even though it has attacked no one in 300 years.

Without Iranian aid to Lebanon's resistance forces (Hezbollah), greedy Zionist land thieves would have stolen Western Syria and Lebanon's southern Litani River basin.
The Israelis still resent the humiliating defeat they suffered at the hands of Hezbollah in 2006 and blame Iran for their inability to steal more land.
Additionally, it is only because of Iranian aid that the US - Israeli supported ISIS was unable to bring about regime change in war torn Syria.

Iran has repeatedly reached out to the US for improved relations(1) but because Israeli lobbies dominate US Mid-East policy, no US politician who wants to see a political future dares to reach back.

Make no mistake, Iran would be a far more reliable & beneficial ally to the US than treacherous and parasitic Israel.
It is Israel's spies who have stolen America's most sensitive secrets and sold them to the former USSR and China.(i.e Jonathan Pollard, AIPAC & etc
It has been Israeli lobbies who have dragged the US into sacrificing countless American live-in wars that only benefit Israeli regional hegemony(2).
It is Israel that has massacred scores of American servicemen not only with impunity but with reward. (i.e. USS Liberty)
It has been parasitic Israeli lobbies who have extracted $ Trillions from needy Americans (3).
Even more American G.I.s are expected to die for Israeli regional hegemony as they are stationed in Israel and to be placed under Israeli command in the event of Israeli provoked hostilities (4).
So, why isn't there even one loyal American in a leadership capacity who is willing to reach back to Iran and act in America's best interest by normalizing relations with such a strategically important & friendly(5) country?
Because the Israeli lobbies who dominate America's Foreign policy won't allow Americans to work in their own best interest.

That is commonly what happens - difference being that in the past at least there was a legitimate threat of some external invader used to get the citizens to trade liberty for security on the basis of fear of this horrible threat.

Today - there is no such threat - so the Oligopoly- Bureaucracy Fusion monster must work overtime in order to generate that fear - and purport these threats as much greater than they actually are.

The risk of harm to a US citizen from "Terrorism" - is lower today then it was in the 70's - when stats started to be kept.

The risk of harm to a US citizen from terrorism is 400 times less than the risk of harm from "Walking" - you heard correct... Ye have double the chance of being hit by a meteor :)

Yet over this horrible threat - the citizens are on their knees and hiding in closets curled up in a ball - begging to give up essential liberty for temporary security.

Used to be "Give me liberty or give me Death" "Those who would trade liberty for security deserver neither"

Now in the "Land of the Free - Home of the Brave" - it is ones "Patriotic Duty" to give up liberty for security.

The founders were well aware of the age old trick ..

Stalin too - using fear of an external threat to take away liberty - his program "Security for the Motherland"
Hitler - same - "Fatherland Security"
Bush - lacking the creative ability to come up with a new name "Homeland Security"

Obama then comes along and changes the name of the "Patriot Act" to the equally Orwellian Doublespeak - "Freedom Act"

Where these goblins come up with these names .. I don't know.

You are talking Gibberish. Iran was one of the first Muslim Nations to recognize Israel's right to exist.

In the case of the Israel/Palestinian Blood feud .. you seem confused .. way more innocent Palestinians have been harmed by Israel than vice versa - so you have things backward.
