    lol

Yeah, I would agree that political news media and apolitical entertainment media are similar insofar as they each succeed by manipulating our emotions with an intent to condition thought.

The fake crowd interaction and carboard people in-frame is absolutely absurd to me. If out-group politicians had that fakery at a presser or rally, in-group media would probably insist that it was a dark ploy to "generate artificial buzz" and to "put lipstick on a pig", and they would be correct in that case. It's predictable I guess that media, on one hand, wants you wholly preoccupied with your new social duties and to accept their new impositions, but on the other hand, they try to mask the degree to which reality accurately reflects these efforts.

But someone high-up thought the carboards were appealing. I think they are way out of touch and I bet most people agree with me and not them.

EDIT - Also, training animals to sniff-out a virus is like touching the stove to make sure it's hot! (apparently dogs can't transmit to people, but still the notion is funny...)

Pretty much everything we see on TV is propaganda. In all these years it has been refined to a high art form. Everybody knows dogs have superior olfactory, and that they are trained to work with humans. Everybody also knows that "false positives" by trained dogs with drugs are fairly common.

Still, the public is being conditioned to buy into the scam at every single opportunity by the media.

Well let's have hope that an emphasis on personal responsibility gains momentum. I see very different views where I live. Some folks wear the mask outside in 90-degree humidity even when there is nobody remotely near them and then some gas stations are staffed by folks who don't even bother wearing it. I'm okay with this range of behavior so long as people are free to do what they think is best for their personal health.

On this note, I wonder if you recall what it was like when smoking became disallowed at restaurants and other indoor areas. Maybe the same arguments have been tried and defeated already, but that's my anchor when I talk about mask-wearing (personal responsibility).

Infection in retirement homes is still a problem, but it's a problem across the country now.

At least it is in the real world.

Of course. "Infection" in nursing homes is always a problem and always will be. Any infection would knock out many nursing home residents.

"So his decision killed a bunch of New Yorkers, but hey, the man looks good on television!"

He did the best he could, which is what dozens of other governors are doing right now, excluding a handful of Republicans that haven't been doing much.

We didn't have experience with the virus back then, we were still learning. The stupid states don't have that excuse...

Of course, you can't lay it all on the states, the failure of the national government to keep the pipeline filled with ppe is a big part of the problem. The failure of the federal government to acquire them, forcing the states into a bidding war with each other, AND the federal government is beyond insane. We should see criminal indictments over that one.

Masks and proximity regulations probably aren't going anywhere. They're the new seatbelts. There is another thread showing how even religious gatherings are being "exposed" by news media in Canada and I think we're to the point that people would actually protest if given the freedom to look after themselves with no proximity laws or face mandates from government.
