Surprisingly, the deaths of older people stayed the same before and after COVID-19. Since COVID-19 mainly affects the elderly, experts expected an increase in the percentage of deaths in older age groups. However, this increase is not seen from the CDC data. In fact, the percentages of deaths among all age groups remain relatively the same.

“The reason we have a higher number of reported COVID-19 deaths among older individuals than younger individuals is simply because every day in the U.S. older individuals die in higher numbers than younger individuals,” Briand said.


Briand also noted that 50,000 to 70,000 deaths are seen both before and after COVID-19, indicating that this number of deaths was normal long before COVID-19 emerged. Therefore, according to Briand, not only has COVID-19 had no effect on the percentage of deaths of older people, but it has also not increased the total number of deaths.


These data analyses suggest that in contrast to most people’s assumptions, the number of deaths by COVID-19 is not alarming. In fact, it has relatively no effect on deaths in the United States.

Firstly, the so-called study was an article published in a student newsletter at Johns Hopkins University. Secondly, the claim that no excess deaths have occurred in 2020 is false. Data from the U.S. CDC clearly shows that the number of deaths in 2020 is higher than that of previous years, most likely as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

He didn’t get it from the link he provided either. This almost certainly came from a tweet, parler or some right wing trash blog.

It’s clearly no real academic paper. The article’s author refers to the researcher, but there is no connection to the research.

And it is being promoted by the right wing media sewer.

Never noticed that it is an article in a student newspaper and not the academic study he tried to pass it off as. Never noticed that the author made no real references to the original source. No appendices, no footnotes, no links.

The argument the right needs to stick to is that while covid is here, and its impactful, we should not continue to ruin peoples lives over it by shutting down and ruining our economy and instead accept the reality of the world we have.

Virtually everyone agrees with the principle that some amount of death is acceptable while still justifying opening our economy for good. They may be to stupid to realize it, but they do, see the amount of deaths for virtually any other reason such as the flu from year to year and how no one wants to shut down for that. It’s because they accepted some deaths are acceptable so they dont have to shut down or significantly change thier own lives.

The same can apply to covid, we did a temporary shut down which according to the data saved millions of lives by potentially slowing the curve.

Time to go back to mostly normal, but just a more cleanly normal.

Wow. How did students who have to be among the smartest students extant in order to attend a world famous medical school, and very liberal students I would assume, come up with and be allowed to publish such misinformation and conspiracies? Are we to believe these students had no oversight while doing their research? Was there any professor in charge of their activities? Who allowed this to happen? Who got fired because, as so many people will tell you, lies killed over 200k people. I think this, and let's call it what it is, information which we're now told spreads death, should be reason enough to halt all federal grants to this university until they play ball.

Every time some positive COVID news comes out, particularly if the death total is mentioned at all, they want to Debbie down on it.(because the crisis is a money maker at this point.). If they don't want alternative views on their findings, they shouldn't post those findings at all.
