When there aren't enough train wrecks to drive one's tree-hugger agenda to the top of the news cycle, I guess one has to try to manufacture their own. Have fun in prison, "ladies".

The Feds are handling it now:

    https://www.justice.gov/usao-wdwa/pr/pair-charged-interfering-safety-railroad-tracks

ETA: given that "the authorities in WA" ceded several blocks of their largest city to domestic terrorists for weeks earlier this year, I do not share your confidence that they would have gotten "a handle on things" without the Feds stepping in.

Is there some sort of rule that says they aren't current events, AJ? Please post that rule for us.

Yeah, please do. I don't understand your (AJ's) complaint either. Most stories are "local" in the sense that they happen within a particular local area. Pretty much every mass shooting and "evil white nationalist attack" story we've ever discussed here, to offer a couple of example, happens within a small area, and is thus a "local story". Are we not to discuss those? Should they be dismissed as merely a "local story"?

Or is your complaint that it's only a "national story" that merits discussion here if particular mainstream media outlets pick it up and run with it? Are we to be limited in our discussions here by what WaPo/NYT/CNN considers newsworthy? If that's it, then I consider that policy foolhardy, but here you go:

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/2-face-federal-terror-charge-over-train-track-interference/2020/11/30/7ee7d178-3375-11eb-9699-00d311f13d2d_story.html

Please note that it's being reported in WaPo's "National News" section.

Likely because it might effect some Amazon shipments, and you know Bezos is all about the benjamins this Christmas season.....

It's sad, but WaPo really has become more of the Amazon corporate newsletter than a serious journalistic institution.

Their coverage of the senate hearings on tech monopolies was atrocious. The entire editorial staff, and desk writers suddenly became proponents of censorship and artificial legal protections for them. It was a train wreck...

They are all just local stories till they derail a train killing hundreds, then it a National Story.

One of the two alleged terrorists used to work for Wild Whatcom (some tree-hugger group), and it's every bit as cringey as you might imagine.

They've removed her from their staff list now, but the Wayback Machine has it

Yes, way to "be a role model" by trying to derail trains, Ellen.

Just about every story out there is a local story. But if you insist, 911 was a local story to NYC.

My grandfather used to work for the railroad back in the day and he said anyone can shut down a train by laying a metal pipe across the tracks. There are tons of RR tracks by me and someday I'm going to measure the voltage going across them because now I'm curious again.

There is no names or description of the women. I wonder if their china virus masks cover their entire bodies with just small slits for their eyes to peek out of.

You know, it's almost as if this story makes the left look bad and as such must be dismissed.

I'm thinking the next four years are gonna be fun here at PF. And by fun I mean I'm gonna be posting a lot of "Welcome to Biden's Amerikka SMH" in any thread where someone gets hurt. Like, even if they stub their toe on a rock while golfing or something.

Is there a rule against local stories here?

Also, I humbly suggest you stay on topic and not go OFF TOPIC with citing fake rules.

As for the topic of the story, undoubtedly these people are crazies and need to be taught a loooong lesson in jail. They could have killed someone, and they are certainly left of center.

    Shocking.

I would have a hard time convicting them of terrorism for this. Trespass and maybe interfering with commerce or something.

The criminal charge seems appropriate to me:

Don't sabotage trains, it's serious stuff.

That's a bad development. Until now most terrorists have been Trotskyites and Trotskyites eschew sabotage as their ideology depends on the general society working. This could cause great harm.
