Ellen is now Elliot and who cares?

    She/her is now he/him, or they/them?

Whatever. They can be he today and she tomorrow and he again the following day.

I don't quite understand the plural they/them usage.

So, I ask my wife, what do you think about this? Like, if Ellen now wants to be Elliot, why can't she just be he? How does they come into it? And my wife says, I don't care what you call me, just don't call me Karen!

    ***
These guidelines produced by glaad.org though are the political part of my reason for posting this thread in this category.

    https://www.glaad.org/blog/elliot-p...la-academy-speaks-out-about-being-transgender

I personally find these guidelines to be a bit condescending and hugely narcissistic. As though all 7+ billion people on earth need to learn *your* preferred pronoun, *your* gender identity and the difference between that and whom *you* care to shag at the moment.

I also find it odd that somehow this and all the other flavors of current norms regarding political correctness somehow seem to be accepted as D positions.

I think Bill Maher is spot on when he rails about how the Ds need to reject some of this sort of stuff. Not to mention how to learn to fight politics like the Rs do, but that is another topic.

Curious - how many hardcore Ds agree with glaad.org's guidelines regarding the proper way to convey the earth shattering news regarding Ellen/Elliot Page's newfound gender truth?

Wasn’t even aware glaad had guidelines regarding transgenders. Hell, I didn’t even know what “glaad” is. Why would anyone not transgender even know such guidelines exist much less care it exists?

Your life will change bigely if you refuse to use the correct pronoun on the wrong person in your work environment.

Would you be happy if your coworkers used a gender pronoun that you don't think is the accurate one for you, or insisted on calling you a name that you think belongs to the other gender?

And if you call someone a "he" because they prefer it, when you really think they are a "she", so what? You've gone out of your way to be polite at no cost to yourself.

Some think it’s not a matter of politeness, they think it’s wrong to feed into another’s delusion.

I’m sure you agree people shouldn’t be compelled to use certain pronouns. You’re not some crazy authoritarian are you? You don’t want Pronoun Police running around fining and arresting people?!

    Why?
    My company has no policy.

    Does yours? What is it?

I know this it OT, but there are literally millions feeding into the illusion of trump's claim of major election fraud.
That seems far more dangerous, as someone is likely going to get hurt or killed over that.

But, I guess, trans type people get hurt or killed already by those who deem them to be something they trans don't claim to be.

Transphobic attacks like the one against Laverne Cox happen daily. Here’s why it’s important to keep talking about them.

I heard that gender reveal announcements are now being considered hostile actions by some.

    Such a hot mess.

I 100% support trans rights. I know a few of them, and they are ridiculously happy compared with how they were up until then.

This them/they stuff, though, is VERY confusing, and I don't condone it. At one of my niece's high school plays, they introduced someone as they, and only one person came out. It took me awhile to figure it out. So silly.

My team is having a new person starting next month who prefers they/them. I'm fine with it, as long as they're fine with me occasionally messing it up at first. No skin off my back, but they'll have to understand that it is confusing and takes some adjustment.

Mostly I just hope that Page still returns for the next season of Umbrella Academy.

I've never been in a situation(yet) where I was given a set of pronouns I was supposed to use.

I do agree that there is an element of arrogance involved with a person thinking they get to control how others will speak of them.

My rule when it comes to he/her is simple. You are a he or a her if you were born as a he or a her OR if you've had a sex change operation. I reject the idea that your gender is just a personal choice. Gender identity, sure. You can identify as whomever you want, but your gender is not psychological, it's physical.

The only folks who I believe should get to "choose" their gender are hermaphrodites. Since you're both, I guess you can pick which one you'll be in a situation.

That said, I see using a person's chosen pronouns as a way of respecting that person. You'll do it if you respect them. Not so much if you don't, and you're not afraid to be a dick. But I also see a lot of arrogance on the part of those who think they get to determine pronouns for the rest of society.

My company has no such policy. Does yours? What is the actual policy? Are you saying your company will fire you if you use the "wrong pronoun"?

I will call you whatever you want. We do need a gender neutral word to replace he/she him/her etc.

Personally, I feel that I was a dog born in a mans body. I felt this way ever since I was a puppy!

If I meet a priest of a religion I don't follow, I don't feel compelled to tell them at once that they life is a lie. Anyone who does, and uses "honesty" as an excuse, needs to recheck their own moral principles.

We already are. If you have a male co-worker named Harry, but you insist on calling him "Mary" and using a female pronoun for him, you will swiftly get into trouble.

    I don't work there.
A teacher. How many teachers are there in the country. Again, my life isn't going to be affected. Anyway the teacher was likely warned and given ample time to adjust. And decided to make a stand against policy. And a stand against policy usually results in fired.

And if per some chance, a trans person works at my company, why would I give a care what they want to be called? It still won't change my life.

My attitude is if they stay out of my life I will stay out of theirs, they can call themselves magazines and it will make no difference to me.
