High poverty areas almost always have more crime. Is that even up for debate? Why do you think wanted to lend taxpayer money to businesses and to invest in black neighborhoods?

What has gotten worse? Police are trying to keep up with the crime rates with low pay and long hours. They aren't perfect, but are very necessary. Your idea that less cops will make the murderers stop murdering, the rapist stop raping, the thieves stop stealing, etc. is a true gem. How do you and other lefties come up with these ideas? Looking at democratic run cities tells us a lot about how your ideas work out.

Research the poverty rate of single mothers. A cultural crisis exists. Poverty and crime is the symptom, not the illness.

The downtown loop and just about everything north most people wouldn't be able to afford a house that is habitable.

The west side is generally good until you get to Austin. One of the worst areas of the city which borders Oak Park a suburb.

South is a mixed bag. Englewood of course is bad, but there are a lot of nice neighborhoods south.

You say 2/3rds, more like 1/16 are ghetto in my opinion and I'm pretty familiar with Chicago.

 

Chicago's murder rate clearance has fallen from 50% in 2006 to less than 20% today. Note how the falling clearance rate has mirrored a rising murder rate. This means that the vast majority of murderers get away with their crime. What do you think the clearance rate will go to with even fewer cops?



Not my problem overall. If Democrats want to burn the city down, who am I to stand in their way? Never stop an enemy from making a mistake. So in short, GO FOR IT, PLEASE GO FOR IT.

 

I have no explanation for it. If the poorer communities want less police in their neighborhoods I would think they only need to ask. The more affluent communities will be happy to have increased police protection.

 

But crimes create also poverty, how do you except people to develop if they're targeted constantly by crimes ?

Then search for Chicago. After that switch to Map view and look for Pullman neighborhood. I see 2 homes for $40k, 1 home for <$30k.
I found studio condos in the heart of Manhattan going for under $300k.

 

I live in the Chicago area. If you are a young family looking for a place to live with decent schools you’d discover that 2/3 of the city isn’t really friendly towards those who would replenish city’s population naturally.
Most of Chicago south of China town and west of union park is gang-infested ghetto. Only north and northwest are fairly decent places, unless you want to live in a nice area that is an oasis surrounded by never-ending urban warfare where blacks and Latinos butcher each other on an industrial scale every single day. Black and Latino lives matter? Not in progressive Chicago.
Now, think about the geographic area - south and west Chicago - that’s a lot of space that is occupied by people living in poverty and crime. You stop supplying cops to these areas and they’ll clear up in 5-10 years. There are already investors out there buying up land on which distressed properties are located.

I think it is important for a growing society to explore different ways to address domestice issues. The best teachers I know try out different methods of teaching. Some work, some do not, but without experimentation one will never grow and make advancements. I think we all know that being static and always going with the status quo leads to stagnation and decline. A progressive agenda is essential to the continued success of our country. The conservatives provide a necessary check to keep it from getting out of hand and provide stabilty. They work together, hopefully, and this balance is what makes our country the greatest country on earth for it's size.

I think it’s a freaking great idea. No cops for minority neighborhoods. Send the cops to the white neighborhoods and protect them. Let the minorities fend for themselves.

 

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” And this "defund the police" has already been tried for months in Democratic cities with disastrous results. Should they keep experimenting? Evidently so.
