I don't drink, and I would rally against prohibition of alcohol

I hope this will be voted on and defeated in the current Senate and if its ever revived in the next Senate and passes I hope Pres Biden will veto it. Can any of you posters honestly tell me Americans deserve this? Do you all think Americans are mature enough for legalized drugs? Are you kidding me with this? People riot and torch their own communities. We cant even get half the country to put on a damn mask when they shop and save lives. You guys and gals want to give these same assclowns, and more, a free pass to roam around all day high? Un-fkin-believable.

Ya go for it. Let the guy who drives your kid's school bus burn a joint before his shift. Let the guy who drives the 80,000 pound semi truck next to you on the highway keep a bong in his cupholder. The guy who does safety checks on your food, stoned. The guy who sorts and delivers your mail/packages, stoned. The guy who fills your prescriptions, stoned. Everyone be getting fked up right? Because thats what this is about, at least be honest about that. This isn't about 'freedom' or 'government' its about people wanting to get fked up. Oh and *bonus* since it will be legal people the demand will skyrocket and thus the price as well which means people are going to need a lot of money to be kept in green. But, oh gee hmmm, what happens when people who don't have money need to get high? Oh riiiiiight, they steal **** and hurt people in pursuit of their fix - so enjoy the incoming massive spike in robbery and assaults.

*DISCLAIMER* I will be ignoring any post resembling the myth that being high makes one a better driver, or safer, or more observant, blah blah blah. Peddle that pack of lies to someone who has already killed off enough brain cells as to not notice the difference.

I don't buy that reps have a moral issue with pot. Big pharma and prison for profit work hard to keep these laws in place. Imagine if all communications between lobbyists and politicians had to be made public.

It won't "not pass" in the Senate... it won't get a vote, because the current Senate Majority leader is a fraidy cat.

I expect to see you campaigning for Jon and the Rev going forward to get this passed eventually, right?

Anybody know the 5 GOP who voted Yea?? Just curious...

Trump and the GOP wont let this pass.

Why? They oppose freedom and are authoritarians.

And legalizing it would deny gangs/cartels their source of income and power. Drug users always find what they want. Its a good motivation story for those who make excuses. Does the crackhead make excuses? No, they always find a way to get crack. :p

Meanwhile GOP wants to kill Medicaid, SNAP, Section 8, and all other welfare programs.

They just want more cops and more bullets.

Yeah, all progressive mass media says the bill is DOA in the senate, but considering that the US voted for legalization of MJ in the UN (Republican Trump is still in charge), I hope the senators will push this through. There must be a solid amount of Republican senators there who support legalization.

has Trump said a word on it yet, I agree Trump could push them, the question is, will he

like I said, if this bill doesn't pass the Senate, Trump has no one to blame but himself

Republicans need to win one more election, so their silence is explainable. Every one of them knows, as soon as they open their mouths in support of this issue in public, they’ll be on the front news. I do believe there is a strong chance that they’ll just quietly push this through.
People get in legal trouble over weed every day, even religious conservatives understand that ruining someone’s life over weed is beyond excessive!

I think the voters on both sides want this to pass, it's the old republicans in congress that don't

but you're right, it might pass as this will be the dems new issue of the day to get votes if republicans do not pass it, and Trump will want it just cause it's a historic bill, one he could really brag about signing

many on the left will be sad it was Trump that signed it though, but this is bigger then party, so even if Trump gets credit, I say pass it

    1. It’s not the business of the federal government to tell me what I can or cannot consume. States are free to make drugs legal or illegal.
    2. What is the point of ruining someone’s life over weed? Slapping criminal records and prison sentences on people who haven’t really hurt anyone is beyond excessive. Criminal records breed poverty, as ex-felons always struggle with getting a good job.

Yep. I think Trump really wants to sign this bill - that will ensure his name will make it to the history books. McConnel is pointedly silent about this issue. I hope this is a good sign.

Legalization of the victimless crime should never be a partisan issue. Jailing people for things they did to themselves at their own will is beyond absurd! Why ruin the life of a woman who willingly decided to have sex with someone for money? Why ruin the life of somebody who sold a harmless plant with extremely low toxicity, lower than most foods we consume, to another person who consciously chose to buy it, as in give something - take something?
It’s stupid! Absurd! In fact, it’s fascist!

    1. Oh it absolutely can when the consequence of doing so can impact others. Did you notice that in our Deceleration of Independence the listing of unalienable rights places LIFE before LIBERTY? That was no mistake. When a presumed 'right' infringes upon the unalienable and true right to life it is no right at all and government may curtail it.
    2. Sow -> reap. Its not difficult not to break laws. Pardon me but I'm not overly troubled with the woes of criminals. To do a thing that you know to be illegal, to be party to a larger criminal complex that is hurting people, this is the very essence of selfish disregard for the good of society that gives me no reason to support legalization. These people haven't earned it and have expressed no interests in doing so.

Constitution never guaranteed rights to life. ;)
And no, there is no impact on you, as someone smoking a joint has as much impact on you as someone having a beer. Crime and poverty came from prohibition by forcing people who want to enjoy it recreationally into contact with real criminals.

Would you even listen to yourself? A conservative, supporting minimal government and states rights, is talking about others having to earn their right to do something to their own bodies? The federal government shouldn’t have an entire law enforcement agency on payroll that ruins people’s lives to ensure you live in your own version of a perfect and sober society.

If they pass this, does it mean I get to smoke weed?

This is long overdue. I vote Republican more often than not, but this is one of those issues where I disagree with the party policy.

As much as I wish this would pass I'm not confident that it will in the Senate. This is one of the major points of contention I have with the Republican Party overall and that's their stance on marijuana. I am willing to listen to arguments regarding harder drugs like cocaine and meth but weed? Give me a break.

I've been asking this same exact question for decades and nobody who is against the legalization of weed has ever been willing/able to give me a straight answer. Why is it legal for me to purchase a 5th of whiskey from the store, go sit on my couch, drink the entire bottle, and pass out on the bathroom floor, but it's illegal for me to smoke weed in my home?

Outside of the notion that "weed is a drug and drugs are bad" because that's what you've always been taught growing up nobody can logically explain that rationale to me. And older Republicans are the absolute WORST at this while simultaneously being the number 1 reason why weed is illegal to this day.

I'll put it to you frank, if you go home in the evening and drink a glass of wine or bourbon or beer and you are against the legalization of weed then you are a hypocrite with absolutely zero legs to stand on from an argumentative stance.
