"He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper; he shall receive Ambassadors and other public Ministers; he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed, and shall Commission all the Officers of the United States."

If a prez can not be indicted for criminal behavior while in office (OLC/DOJ opinion), and can pardon him/herself for any violation of federal law before leaving office, then we have put the prez above the law. He could shoot a person on 5th Ave during his/her term and not be prosecuted..........ever.

It is ludicrous to think this is what the founders intended when they gave the prez the power to grant pardons.

You want to see Trump in prison for what? What crimes has he committed?

The FBI already went through his taxes. He has done nothing wrong. Again you all have nothing.

Impeachment was put forth by only Democrats who had the majority and did so with no evidence.

The Democratic party and left has become a huge embarrassment.

The pardon power like all parts of the Constitution are fluid and meant to be interpreted loosely. Yeah, that's it let's go for a loose interpretation. So Trump can pardon himself and anyone else he so desires.

We know he'll pardon Giuliani, Stone, Manafort, his own family... maybe himself. Imagine if you're in the shoes of any of those people. What is to keep them from doing anything they damn well please. Trump doesn't even need to shoot that person on 5th Ave himself. He can just tell Giuliani to go shoot them. Right now, they are ALL above the law.

I think you are correct. The founders didn't intend the pardon power to be used on personal matters.

If this goes to SCOTUS, we shall see how "originalist" the self proclaimed "originalists" really are.

How refreshing to see Democrats take a sudden interest in the constitution.

nope, they are asking State legislatures to violate state law, by ignoring the state popular vote for President.

Suddenly, republicans want to take away how states handle election procedures which are clearly outlined in the constitution.

every state has a law saying that the popular vote decides which set of electors is chosen.

asking the state legislatures to scrap this, is asking them to break the law.

Nor did the founders intend on blanket pardons either, in other words, the pardons are for a specific and limited scope. When President Ford pardoned Nixon, it was only for the time he was in office.

Pence could pardon Trump for any crimes that arise during his time in office.

True, but in order to do that Trump would need to resign in order for Pence to assume the presidency. I doubt Trump will do that. He will most likely attempt to pardon himself, and it seems unlikely the SCOTUS would allow that, and if they did, it could throw us into a Constitutional crisis.

What? That makes absolutely no logical sense at all.

I'm going to start keeping a list of totally inane things that you say.

Obviously a state legislature can change their own law they made.
